Bunny Love

“Checkmate.” Velveteen says, placing their chess piece down, taking a sip of their coffee.
“What?! Again!?” Fatima exclaimed, groaning as she laid her forehead on the table.
“How are you so good at Chess?! This isn’t fair at all!”
Velveteen chuckled, “I’ve been playing Chess longer than you have.” They reached over and gently patted Fatima’s head.
“You’re getting better at it, I must admit.”
Fatima’s tail swayed slightly when Velveteen patted her head.
“Thanks, for teaching me how to play Chess. It’s so complicated but kind of fun.”
“You’re welcome. It’s nice to have someone else who plays. It gets boring playing alone sometimes.” They said, taking another sip of their coffee.
“Is there anything else you would like to do today? You’re still staying the night, correct?”
Fatima blinks a few times and giggles.
“If you still want me to, but I did say I was here to sleep over. As for what I’d like to do…” She places her hand on her chin, brows furrowing in thought as her tail swayed listfully behind her.
“Let’s play Go Fish!”
“Go Fish?” Velveteen tilts their head curiously.

“Yes! Come on, let’s see if you have any cards and I’ll show you.” Fatima smiles and gently takes their hand, tugging them along.

Heading into the house, Fatima looks around on one of the nearby shelves, searching for cards and not coming up with any at all.
“You don’t have any cards?”
“No. I never play them so I never bought them.”
“Good thing I brought my own!” Fatima exclaimed, running off towards the room and grabbing her bag, ruffling through it and grabbing a pack of playing cards.
“Come on, I’ll teach you how to play.” Fatima offered, moving towards the couch and patting the spot in front of her.
“Now, here’s how you play Go Fish. I would suggest Blackjack but Go Fish is much more fun.” She says, before explaining the rules of Go Fish to Velveteen.
“So, ready to give it a try?”
Velveteen nodded, holding the cards in their hand and looking them over.

The pair play a few rounds of Go Fish until someone’s stomach growls.
Fatima giggles softly as she places the cards down on the couch.
“I suppose it is getting to be near lunch. I’m hungry as well. Would you like to help me cook?”
“Are you sure? I wouldn’t want to be in the way.”
“I’m sure. I think it’ll be fun to cook together. Unless, you want me to cook for you again?”
Velveteen stares at her for a moment, eyes widening slightly as they gently scratch at their cheek.
“I wouldn’t wish to pressure you… it’s just, I enjoy your food rather than my own sometimes and-”

Fatima shakes her head, stealing a quick cheek kiss, making them blush.
“You can’t say things like that when you’ve been cooking far before you met me but, I appreciate the compliment and flattery. You’re cooking tomorrow though.” She says, making her way towards the kitchen.

Entering the kitchen, Fatima’s eyes catch the sight of what looks like an apron hanging up.
“Hey, where’d this apron come from? Is this yours? I don’t remember seeing it here before, is this new?”
“Yes. I figured that I needed a few new ones and they were on sale. I have one for you as well but didn’t have time to give it to you, the one hanging up now is for you.”
“You didn’t have to, you know?”
“I know but, think of it as a gift among friends. Until I can give you the other one that I’ve been thinking about.” They whispered, having moved closer to Fatima without her noticing.
Fatima stared at them, her eyes widening as her cheeks suddenly warmed.
“Oh! I see.” She takes the apron and puts it on, before moving around the kitchen and grabbing everything she needed to make their lunch.

The rest of the day together was spent relaxing on the couch, reading books and engaging in small talk.
Once night fell, the two got ready for bed then tucked in for the night; with Fatima sleeping on the bed and Velveteen sleeping on the futon they set out in the middle of the room.
