[Gift] Pirates Aren't Cool?!

“A pirate, so uncool.”

That’s what that punk had said as Morgan walked passed the park on his way home from work. At least he was pretty sure that’s what she had said. Jackal, he thought their name was. Yea, that was it. He’d heard about them. They were the epitome of cool, according to some of his friends.

So they must know what is and isn’t ‘cool’.

But what did they mean pirates weren’t cool?!

Pirates were always cool!

Swashbuckling adventures, debauchery, raids, looting, drink, treasure! What wasn’t awesomely badass about that?

So much of a pirate’s life was cool - wasn’t it? He had been having a lot of doubts recently about whether he should stop chasing this buccaneer dream and settle down. Be ‘normal’.

Morgan had started to doubt everything he believed in. Maybe…pirates really weren’t cool.

Was he old-fashioned?

Outdated.

Was his whole way of life a sham!? Was it a boring excuse for a life, a meaningless and fruitless effort.

He couldn’t even swim - in fact he was terrified of the water. So even if pirates were cool - he was not. He was uncool.

The pirate succubun made an angry little growl as he got back to his apartment, walking inside to meet his sea sceil, swimming happily in its tank.

“Hey Neptune,” Morgan said softly and walked over, feeding the imp some delicious treats and watching him eat them up bit after bit.

“You don’t think I’m outdated, do you?” he asked the sceil, who seemed to make a little bubbling noise from its tank. Morgan sighed and headed in for bed.

Maybe it was time to change with the tides?

Maybe he was…no longer relevant?

Angry and annoyed, Morgan got into bed and tried his best to sleep, but he couldn’t. He was tossing and turning. Thinking about how to change to become ‘cool’ again.

Pirates were out.

Morgan slumped into work the next morning, tired and unimpressed. He heard gasps from his waiting staff and his kitchen crew.

“Captain…what are you wearing?” Soju asked him, almost dropping the clean stack of plates he was carrying from the washer. Morgan had walked in dressed in black skinny jeans, black boots and a plain white t-shirt. His hair was tied up into a high bun and he looked so…normal.

“What does it look like Soju, clothes,” Morgan barked angrily. “This kitchen isn’t going to clean itself so get to it, you ingrates!”

The crew jumped and went into action, getting everything ready for lunch service as their head chef and captain disappeared into his office.

Something was definitely off.

After lunch service was over Soju bravely knocked on the door of their captain's office. He walked inside to see the man with his head on the table, chef’s jacket hung open over his plain, boring t-shirt.

“Sir,” Soju said softly as he approached the defeated-looking man.

“What do you want Soju?” Morgan asked him and Soju gulped.

“Well you just don’t seem yourself sir…you know…less…piratey,” Soju explained.

“What’s the point Soju, pirates aren’t cool anymore, this is my new look now, I call it common man,” he replied as he turned his head.

Soju frowned and wondered what had caused their once such charismatic pirate captain to look so…defeated.

“Captain!” Soju shouted which got the blue-haired man’s attention. “Enough, I’ve had enough, I’m not going to watch you be miserable the rest of the day, you’re going to…uhh…tell me what’s wrong or I’ll tell the crew you can’t swim!”

This got a gasp from Morgan who stood to his feet.

It was every pirates worse nightmare for his crew to find out he couldn’t swim!

“You wouldn’t,” Morgan growled in response.

“Wouldn’t I?” Soju snapped.

“Is this a bad time?” Jackal asked as she popped her head around the door of the office and Morgan looked at her.

“It’s you,” Morgan said in shock. “What are you doing here?”

“Huh, well I…what are you wearing?” she asked. “That’s not very piratey.”

“I thought pirates weren’t cool…isn’t this cool?” Morgan asked her.

“What, I never said pirates weren’t cool, I said nice a pirate, that’s cool,” she commented and Morgan looked at her blinking a few times.

“I love pirates, they’re badass, plus you got some sick piercings man,” she continued and Morgan smiled.

“You think so?” he replied.

“Yea man, so I was wondering if you guys did bookings, I wanna bring some friends here, I think they’ll really dig this place,” she continued.

“Absolutely, I can book you in right now,” Morgan told her and took out his book.

“Sweet, hey where can I get some pirate clothes, ya know wanna dress the part,” Jackal asked him and Morgan blinked a couple of times before smiling again.

“Don’t worry, I’ll hook you up,” he replied.
