MYO-4393: Bai Chen
李玉刚 · 赤伶
Bai Chen
aloof · anxious · hardworking · hopeless romantic
His horns didn't turn sloth due to complacency or laziness, but rather apathy. As much as he wanted to do and see and learn, there wasn't much he was allowed to besides the extensive and rigorous training on the traditional theater (opera!) arts & dance... And by the time his caretaker realized it was important to allow diversity of experiences, he'd become accustomed to not being able to, disinterested.
This bit him in the ass once it was time to return to Burrowgatory, and he saw himself lacking most skills & access to resources to begin his adult life that weren't just for the entertainment of others.
While juggling the learning of everything he should have, and trying to improve his living situation from the bare minimum, he made a chance connection with then aspiring star, Rubí. They became attached to each other due to similar backgrounds and interests, and their puppy love made both very happy.
That is, until their marriage. After that, things went downhill, but Clem has always been a very patient man, so he was willing to wait for her. But she wanted more and more, and eventually, he wasn't enough anymore.
Since then he's practically back to square one, except now older, very disillusioned... And a bit grouchy as well. Even changed career paths to reduce the chances of having to face his ex again (or he'll probably sob).
Currently a salesman part time, while also doing private dancing shows in questionable establishments. Usually, he picks up long work shifts to avoid thinking about how miserable he feels half of the time, which ends up with him returning home exhausted, sleeping like a log.
Despite how many talismans and rituals he tries, he's still unusually unlucky in most new endeavours. He just wishes his life would turn around for the better.
He's not very adventurous, and needs external encouragement to do new things. He rarely initiates or seeks relationships with others, unless they voice their interest first. Even then, he's a tsundere when it comes to admitting his feelings, but once you've got his full trust, he is loyal and willing to go along with the whims & desires of his partner.

Relationships
Rubí
They connected in their early days through theater. She found him charming despite his awkwardness, and Chen felt attracted to his bubbly personality, gorgeous looks & the impulse to protect her from further harm... Within one year they had moved in together, and later on, he proposed marriage, which Rubí accepted. Her career opportunities kept growing, seeing each other less and less. Chen supported his dreams becoming a reality, but he noticed his behaviour changing. By year five, she admitted whatever he had for him at the start had waned considerably, even if he had always been a faithful & devoted submissive husband. So he delievered the divorce papers. He signed the papers to appease her, insisting they could still see each other. But Rubí bribed someone to get all legal records of them ever being together scrubbed, effectively burning all ties.
He still thinks of Rubí in a very bittersweet light, most often when drinking, wondering what else he could've done to make him stay.
Haze
They met at Clem's night job; a venue that specializes in the traditional arts he's trained in, where they also offer extra enjoyment for patrons, if the dancer is up to it. Haze loves to poke and prod at him, as he finds his anger somewhat endearing, and very amusing. Chen gets easily winded up by their antics, but recognizes he's one of his better clients so he's willing to put up with it. Funnily enough, neither of them is aware of their common link (Past story with Rubí)
