CELESTE

SHE / HER | TOYHOUSE PROFILE

Celeste’s moniker of being “The Starfallen Princess” is an apt name, as being an envy bun she proclaims herself as having fallen from grace as a child and returned to royalty as an adult. Her social media followers eat it up. She exudes an air of luxury and entitlement benefitting of her status. Initially, she presents as your typical high-society socialite: vain, smug, and flirtatious, with a penchant for flaunting her wealth. From her meticulously cultivated social media presents to the extravagant parties she hosts for the most trivial of reasons, Celeste thrives on attention and adoration. Despite all of the evidence for her success, she carries deep mental scars that color her interactions with others immensely. Her polished exterior is only a veneer for the emotional vulnerability and intricacy of her thoughts.

In youth, Celeste was cared for by Gremory, same as all other envy buns. Gremory never recognized her worth, and Celeste spent her childhood chasing approval, care, love, that Gremory would never give her. Indifference, neglect, and rejection shaped Celeste’s branched envy horns, wounded by the affection others received rather than herself. This emotional neglect led to Celeste creating a shell of vanity and bratty behavior to use as a shield and keep others at arms length. She opted to push others away before they could get close enough to hurt her, but by the same token, she seeks attention due to a deep-seated fear of abandonment. Her self-serving and snooty attitude are a double-edged sword in social settings: either people see what she wants them to, or even worse, see her for who she truly is.

Despite her public persona of being “famous for being famous”, Celeste has worked her way to the top through her intelligence and business savvy. Shortly after her entrance to Burrowgatory, she was mentored and taken in by a wealthy alcohol mogul with an iron grip on the industry. Starting off as a bar maid and learning everything she could about both spirits and negotiations, liquors and board rooms, and everything in between, Celeste proved her worth to her mentor and is set to inheret everything when the time is right thanks to her wit, adaptability, and sharp business acumen. Unafraid of both hard work and speaking her mind, Celeste’s time of self-reliance have made her resilient. Though pampered now, she remains independent however she can in subtle ways, handling herself easily in everyday life even without the need to do so herself. With a high alcohol tolerance (how else could you spend hours each day testing samples?), expertise as a sommelier, and a shark-like mentality for cutting deals, Celeste contributes to her image as a business woman who enjoys the finer things in life and has no trouble holding her own.

Of course, it’s not always business in life, and Celeste does possess a soft side concealed beneath her flashy public image. Her secondary passion is anime and manga, but that’s not a socially acceptable hobby to have in the professional world, forcing Celeste to keep this fanaticism hidden. In the private spaces of fan conventions, meetups, and paraphernalia shops, Celeste finds true peace, free from the weight of her fame. Entering cosplay competitions, engaging fan forums, and lining up for new releases give her a sense of freedom she can’t find in her everyday life. Here, Celeste’s true personality shines through: her brattiness and vanity give way for the genuine connections she hopes to foster with others.

Even with the friends she’s made along the way, both in her hobby and on social media, Celeste’s life of wealth and indulgence hasn’t sated the emotional void within her. All of the endless parties, designer fashion, and pedigree imps could never substitute for meaningful connection with other buns. Validation from her socialite status and social media presence is hollow at best, still leaving her aching with loneliness. The walls she’s put up around her heart for protection also prevent others from digging deeper into the core of her being.

Ultimately, Celeste is a bun torn between her public persona and private desires. She relishes the luxury and fame her wealth and status brings, savoring the attention and status they allow her. However, she longs for something more profound: a deeper connection with someone, recognition for her authentic self, perhaps even love, all untethered by the image she lets the public see. Her “Starfallen Princess” persona may exude elegance and perfection, but it will always mask a lonely soul who simply desires to be loved and valued for being “Celeste” alone.
