[Comm] Dan's Dire Dango

Today was going to be the day.

Today, Millie Shortbreadette decided she would not leave Dan’s shop until he told her everything she needed to know about his dangos and mochis, even if it meant suffering his guaranteed ire. She enjoyed baking most everything under the crystalline canopy; ube rolls, croissants, cookies in the shape of pampkis, cupcakes modeled after phloofs, you name it. In fact, there wasn’t a person in Millie’s life that didn’t enjoy her baked goods, so the only natural step was to learn how to make dangos to treat her loved ones with! Surely Dan would understand that right?

She stepped foot into his confectionary shop, inviting in a cool breeze behind her. Her face was bright with dogged determination and cheerfulness, undeterred by her failed previous attempts to get him to open up.

“Daaaaan-!” Millie Shortbreadette called out in a singsong-like tone, looking from the register to the displays of the colorfully arranged dangos and mochis for sale. “Ohhhh Dan, yoohoo, I’m baaaaaaaack!”

His telltale sigh from the kitchen made her floppy ears and tail wiggle as she wandered back, seeing him in the middle of placing doughy rolls onto a skewer. The blue Pride bun seemed wholly unimpressed by her barging in, yet he also appeared used to her antics by now.

“Millie Shortbreadette, why am I not surprised.” Dan stated flatly, rolling another dango set up as she walked around the island he was working on to observe him. “Guess since you’re here…may as well finally teach you how to make these. I’m starting on a batch of coconut dango. Newer, but easy enough to follow with all the right ingredients.”

The golden Gluttony bun froze and looked at the other bun with disbelief.

“Are you- you’re serious? You mean it? Oh, do you absolutely mean it?” She could scarcely contain her excitement as she immediately circled around to his side, holding onto his hoofed arm. Her unbridled joy made Dan scowl but he didn’t shoo her away this time.

“Don’t make me rescind my offer. Just watch and then you can practice at home- not here. I don’t want your novice work ending up with my customers.” He explained before he began his demonstration for her, working from the beginning until the end. She followed along, attentive and mesmerized, and clapped with joy when he finished.

“That’s not too bad at all! Well, I mean, I know you’re a master and all…but this looks like a lot of fun! I can’t wait to make this at home!” Millie giggled and pulled away from Dan’s side. “I’ll be sure to make you some and swing by with other goodies okay?”

Dan stared at her flatly before he nodded. “Sure, that’s fine. I’ll see you tomorrow then?”

She gave him a little hoofed salute before blazing out the door with a renewed sense of creativity. She’d show up with so much dangos and treats for him, he’ll most definitely have to show her how to make mochis next time!

Millie and her quest to learn a new bakery treat has to begin with the master, of course.
