A Quiet Celebration
With the sound of celebration raising from the streets of the burrows, Blush found himself sighing softly as he stared out of the windows of the Heavenly Embassy.
Ever since he had assisted Primrose with the ambrosia harvest, the church had started to send him for all of their cherubun related concerns. Which of course included various scolding from Primrose about how certain succubuns acted in the embassy.
Blush would have preferred to party down below, to run around with his lover and enjoyed the day that the burrows had flourished. Instead he was here, watching as Primrose pointedly ignored the screams of laughter that carried through the air.
“You really don’t care about what’s happening right now? The partying?” Blush questioned, looking a bit amused.
Primrose scoffed, “Why would I? All of that inappropriate behavior.”
Blush shook his head, “Come on Primrose, it’s not about that. Or well all of it. It’s good to be happy about the place you live.”
“Why would I be happy her-” Primrose was quickly interrupt by Blush.
“You wouldn’t be here if you weren’t a little curious, so let’s leave it at that.” The priest didn’t want to get mad at Primrose, but sometimes the things he said were enough to infuriate him.
The pair were quiet for a moment, before the cherubun huffed, “I’m assuming you want to leave then?”
Blush shrugged, waving his hand dismissively, “I already told you I would help you clean up any messes succubuns made here. I don’t just say things I don’t mean.”
Primrose seemed to be considering something, his expression tight with irritation and maybe even a small spark of guilt that Blush had to miss all the revelries. He didn’t understand why succubuns had to celebrate today, but given Blush seemed to be a vaguely decent succubun, Primrose could afford to be a touch understanding. Only a touch. “What do you want? I’m going to get us coffee from the cafe.”
Blush was stunned into silence for a moment, before he smirked, “Oh, any particular reason?”
Primrose glared, “Do you want a coffee or not?”
Blush put his hands up, “Yes please, I would love a coffee. Preferably one of these sweet drinks, something pink, oh I don’t know the name. Just ask Beanny, she’ll know.” He had to remind himself not to tease Primrose too much or the cherubun was bound to lecture him.
Primrose nodded and left the room swiftly.
Blush shook his head, “Just what is he thinking now? I can never keep up with him.”
It was a short twenty minutes later that Primrose showed up with the drinks and handed Blush his. “You should be grateful, Beanny made a fresh batch for your drink.”
Blush laughed, “I am grateful.” He held up his drink and gave Primrose a challenging look, “To the burrows?”
Primrose looked away, his lips turned downwards, before he sighed heavily and tapped his drink against Blush’s. “Very well.”
Blush grinned widely, “Now now, maybe there is hope for you living here.”
“And just what does that mean?”
“Nothing, nothing, this is a night for celebrating so no more arguing.”
“We are not-” Primrose stopped and pinched the bridge of his nose, “Fine.” The cherubun hardly thought he was celebrating, but he did have to say, it wasn’t so terrible to see Blush look pleased. The cherubun refused to acknowledge the thought that they were friends, but maybe there was an even smaller part of himself that didn’t mind the thought. If it had to be a succubun, then there were worse ones than Blush.
“Say if we’re celebrating, then let’s go the greenhouse, I bet you can see fireworks from the windows.” Blush grinned, trying to usher the other man out of the room.
“Why do we need to do that?”
“Oh live a little would you!”
The cherubun didn’t stop complaining even as they walked through the grass of the greenhouse and approached one of the large windows.
Primrose looked out at the burrows, about to turn away towards Blush when a firework burst outside of the embassy. “Oh.” The cherubun looked transfixed by the sight, his eyes wide as the colors faded from the sky.
Blush did his best not to seem too smug as he leaned against the glass. “Fireworks are pretty, aren’t they?”
Primrose stared as another firework was sent high in the sky. “I suppose they are.”
They stood together for some time, watching the sparkles.
Blush smiled, “To another year, to buns of all shapes and sizes living together.
Primrose was quiet. “Even cherubuns?”
“We all live here, Primrose, this entire place belongs to all of us.”
Primrose didn’t say another word, but Blush took that to mean he said something unneeded again. It was fine, he had his reservations about cherubuns but he did believe they belonged here now.
Succubun or cherubun, they all called this place their home. Blush wanted another year to enjoy the time buns had together, he wanted to understand everything he didn’t know. To be a better priest, to help those that felt lost.
Maybe to even be a better friend to those he had, even if some of them were a little stuck up. He wanted to do so much and he was grateful he had the chance to do so. Grateful for all he had and all he would gain.
“I really do love Burrowgatory.”
