Lofty Dealings
Naoya stared unblinking around the room, his back to the closed office Senya was in with the head of the financial firm they were at. Senya had been scoping out someone to, essentially, become his CFO. While Senya was decently good with money, he knew better than to try to handle it himself when instead he could find someone who could really crunch numbers. Naoya, Senya's partner and ever faithful bodyguard, stood post outside the office, agitated he couldn't come in because the guy Senya was meeting with was intimidated.
As he should be.
The firm had no dealings with organized crime, so Naoya was slightly less on edge about having his oyabun out of his sight. Senya wanted someone outside of their world so he was currently looking over all the employee's profiles. He trusted the guy to have someone he'd be looking for since Senya had gone to him a couple times to pick his brain about some issues that had come up.
Naoya stood arms crossed practically glaring at the entire office of workers. That quickly changed as someone began walking his way; Naoya dropped his hands, one on the hilt of his katana and the other on the saya.
“Move please, I need to speak with my boss,” the man spoke in a flat voice.
“You're going to wait until the meeting is done.”
“I don't think I am,” came his reply.
The man reached to nudge Naoya out of the way to grab the door handle but his wrist was quickly snatched in a tight, bruising grip by Naoya. The man winced but otherwise didn't react.
“I said you're going to wait,” he repeated before pushing the other back a couple of feet, releasing his grip.
“So forceful,” the man chuckled, a sly expression on his features.
Naoya could see the change in tactics in the other man.
“I'm Shusui,” he introduced, taking a step closer but making sure not to touch Naoya. “Say, if I blow you, can I go in then?”
Naoya didn't even blink.
“Oh come now,” Shusui purred, raising a hand to gently brush a knuckle under Naoya's chin, “there must be something I can do for you to let me in.”
“Careful, he bites,” a new voice, deep and rich, warned with a chuckle.
Naoya looked over his shoulder to see Senya peeking his head out of the door.
“Please go back to your meeting, oyabun, I've got this handled,” he reassured.
“Actually, I was just looking for this gentleman. Please do come in Shusui,” Senya spoke, opening the door fully for the man.
“Funny how things work out,” Shusui teased Naoya with a wink.
Naoya said nothing as he grit his teeth letting the man through the door.
“Would it make you feel better if you join us, Naoya?”
Senya leaned to place a soft kiss on his partner’s cheek.
“Yes.”
His oyabun gently grabbed his hand and let him lead them into the room.
“Ah Shusui, perfect timing as always!”
“Here's the report for the project,” Shusui handed his boss a stack of papers.
“Thank you!” The boss took them before placing it off to the side of his desk. “There's something I actually want to speak to you about! Please sit!”
Shusui raised a brow at his boss before glancing at Senya and Naoya; he sat in the chair next to Senya waiting for his boss to explain.
“Mr. Senya has been looking for a financial advisor for his, uh, personal business. You were the first I recommend since you've always done such great work.”
“To be perfectly transparent with you,” Senya began, “I am yakuza, an oyabun more specifically. I'm looking for someone who is well-versed in finances to keep everything in line and offer advice when I need it. I'm prepared to offer you double your salary due to you becoming involved in organized crime. I'd also like for you to live at my home for further ease.”
“Organized crime huh? Sounds dangerous,” Shusui commented.
“It can be at times but I can assure you that your work is mainly behind the scenes, as well as Naoya lives with me so he would be there for further protection if needed.”
Shusui glanced to see Naoya mildly annoyed, no doubt at the thought of Shusui living in the same house as him.
“Oh, would he?” Shusui smirked.
“Careful,” Senya warned, “while he is my bodyguard, Naoya is also my partner.”
“My apologies,” Shusui dropped the teasing immediately, not wanting to risk such a cushy job offer.
“No worries,” Senya chuckled. “He's so fun to tease so I don't blame you.”
Naoya directed his ire to Senya.
“I can also offer a trial period so that you can decide if it's the right fit for you or not. Does that sound acceptable to you?” Senya asked, reaching out his hand.
“More than acceptable,” Shusui grinned, shaking Senya's hand.
How Shusui met Senya and Naoya, and how he became Senya's personal financial advisor. Shusui and Senya have become great friends since then, while Naoya fights the urge to throw hands with Shusui almost daily (Naoya secretly enjoys their friendship but will never admit it outloud).
