Character Ties
Posted 1 month and 1 week ago :: Last edited 1 month and 5 days ago by Yves♡♡♡
Hello, Burrowgatory! Are you excited for our biggest new feature of the month, as well as a new NPC?
Character Ties
You can now officially link your characters together on site using character ties!
With character ties, any two buns can now have a variety of relationships between them, ranging across amorous, platonic, erotic, civil, and antagonistic. Stack up to three different ties on any pair to describe more complicated relationships!
All of a bun's ties can by found on their new Ties page, located in the menu beneath their Menagerie. Like the Menagerie page, the Ties page will allow you to view the entire collection of that character's relationships all at once. You can click on a character's box to view the labels for their relationship!
Creating Ties
To create a character tie, you'll need a Red Thread. Using this item in your inventory will allow you to select one of your own characters to propose a tie, and let you choose what the relationship label will be on your character's side. The second character in the tie can be another one of your own characters, or a character belonging to another player!
Once a tie has been proposed, the owner of the second character (including yourself, if creating a tie between two of your own characters) will receive a notification of the proposal, and can either reject or accept it. Upon accepting, they will be able to choose what the relationship label will be on their character's side.
If a tie proposal is rejected, the Red Thread will not be consumed. Additionally, if you've made a mistake in your proposal, or if it's been sitting too long without either being rejected or accepted, you can cancel your own proposal from your Pending Ties page to get your Red Thread back.
Altering Ties
If two characters have an existing tie, but their relationship has changed since the tie was created, you can alter that tie to better reflect their new relationship using a Thread Picker.
Please note that a Thread Picker will only alter the relationship on your own bun's side, changing how the other bun is labeled on your own bun's Ties page. In order to alter both sides of a tie, both sides will need to use a Thread Picker. A Thread Picker can only alter one tie at a time, regardless of how many ties two buns have between them.
Severing Ties
If you've decided that you no longer want two characters to be associated with each other, or if you're trading a character to someone else and erasing their previous connections, you can use Fate's Shears to sever the ties between two buns.
Please note that Fate's Shears will sever all of the ties between two buns, regardless of how many they have; there is not currently a way to sever only one tie and leave the others intact. This will remove both buns from each others' Ties pages completely, and does not require approval from the owner of the other bun.
Matchmaker
The items needed to create, alter, and sever ties can all be found at the new Matchmaker shop.
This shop is also where the pronoun titles can now be found!
New NPC: Satin
Running the Matchmaker shop, the romantically-minded Satin has joined our NPC roster.
After a childhood of being neglected by her demon guardian Gremory, Satin wants nothing more than to help others meet their soulmates—and maybe find one herself.
You can read more about Satin in her profile, or get to know her in the new NPC prompt.
Other NPCs
For those curious about the web of relationships between Succubuns' colorful cast of NPCs, we'll be adding more ties between the NPC's over the next few days.
Additionally, with a growing roster of nearly 20 NPCs, the admins have decided that it's no longer a good idea to keep the NPC masterlist entries on our personal accounts, and have moved them all to the Admin account for safekeeping. Thank you all for all of the love you've showed these characters over the past two years!
Masterlist Display Updates
To keep everything looking neat with the new features we've added this month, character names will now automatically truncate in areas like the masterlist or on Ties pages if they're too long to fit on one line.
Truncation will be affected by the settings of your browser, screen size, and other variables that affect how many characters can comfortably sit in one row. Your character's name will never be truncated on their masterlist entry or their profile page, and you're welcome to make it as long as you'd like.
Additionally, it will now no longer be possible to add emojis to character names. We apologize for any changes this may make to your bun rosters, as we do know that some players like to use emojis to categorize characters or add a bit of flair to their page. However, use of emojis in character names has caused us issues with masterlist display in the past, and has complicated the addition of things like Titles and Ties. We hope that you can understand why we needed to make this change, and that the additional character customization features added this month will help to make up for it!

As of 8:00pm on 10/20, we're currently attempting to bugfix an error with character ties that causes them to sometimes display the same prompt for both characters when setting a tie between two characters. This does not happen with the majority of ties submittied, which made it very hard to test for and discover on a smaller scale.
Most users' ties should have been working just fine, but some displayed the same prompt for both characters, causing an incorrect tie type to be chosen.
We're still working to nail down the exact cause of this issue, especially because it is not happening to all ties or all characters. We recommend you avoid submitting ties until this is fixed.
Once we have this ironed out, we'll put out a call to compensate players who's ties were affected by this, but we need to focus our time and energy on actually fixing the bug for tonight.
We appreciate your patience-- it's been a long time since we added something this complex to the site, and while we knew about the possibility of bugs, this one has been paticuarily tricky.
Thanks!

As of 11:45pm on 10/20, Ties appear to be fully functional. If you submitted a tie between the launch and 8:00pm on the 20th when we announced the issue and had an error, please open a claim with both buns attached explaining which side or sides was mistaken, and staff will issue a thread picker to your account.
Thank you for your patience with us as we solved this error-- I hope you've all been enjoying the new feature despite it!
