As his popularity skyrocketed, Maelstrom’s videos grew more extravagant and audacious, having to take a few biking lessons to pull off a new series he intended to upload on his channel; little did he know that that would be the beginning of his dirtbike racing career. While he still uploads online, Maelstrom has found more joy in the fame and intensity of the sport. Unluckily for everyone else, he's still very loud, boisterous, obnoxious, and flashy.
Mael is unpredictable and eccentric, with bizarre food preferences that border on offensive—like his infamous microwaved burger bowl, with 14 types of cheese and a mix of hot sauces that seem to change each time somebody asks. He's also oblivious to those around him, with little regard for others' feelings—not out of direct personal malice, but simply because his mind is usually preoccupied with anything other than the people nearby. This preoccupation and lack of focus also lends to his ability to do dangerous, risky stunts and lack of self-preservation. He doesn’t explain his actions, only if you’re a friend he’s loyal too would he ever think to explain himself to you.
Mael fixates on the nearest and loudest thing in front of him, finding it his duty to usurp it and become the center of attention. One of his favorite activities is making sure everyone knows where, who, and what he is. Challenging any authority or personality that insults or threatens his pride. Though, he doesn’t know what to do with himself when he actually finds somebody cool and wants to get to know them. Maelstrom’s showy behavior stems from his past, but good luck getting him to open up about it—he’s as stubborn as they come. He finds discussing emotions embarrassing and uncomfortable, viewing it as a sign of weakness and stupidity amongst himself.

✎Design FUNFACTS
So Maelstrom is my first bunny that I traded for specifically because I wanted to tackle a redesign! The Fire / Water theming was cool, but with the traits I had a cool theme to take the design in. I was thinking polluted sludge and gasoline fire fumes would be very expressive, and I always wanted to use Spirit Motes so I believed they’d be a fun inclusion.
Originally; I wanted to give him big, dramatic locs to get across the wild fun shape language. But the thought of the hair having to be non-euclidean to realistically fit in a biker helmet personally bothered me enough I looked for different styles. I settled on cornrow braids!
★Trivia 
- Maelstrom isn't stupid, he just prioritizes other things. Doubting his intelligence won't be beneficial to anybody. He's specfiically clever when it comes to coming up with new, engaging ideas to what an audience would want.
- Maelstrom's calls purple spirit mote "Gas-Leak" and his fiery spirit mote "Detonator"
- Maelstrom's online handle is "Maelstorm", which was a typo he ran with.
- Mael tells people his height is 5'7" to make them feel shorter.
Relationships
Ryder & Maelstrom met during a competition with Ryder winning in the end. Maelstrom, admittedly, thought Ryder was super epic and cool. Which fucking sucked because he’s a little twink nerd who beat him at a motocross race. His thoughts on Ryder are a smidge more complicated than they are with his regular friends, since he respects Ryder and finds his skills inspiring.
However, this doesn’t stop Mael from bullying and whining at him.
Maelstrom met Tsunami through Ryder. While Maelstrom doesn’t dislike Tsunami, Tsu sure knows how to piss him off. Tsunami loves pushing Maelstrom’s buttons, and Mael falls for it every time. It’s not uncommon to see the two wrestling or butting heads, with Mael always taking their conflicts far more seriously than he should. Once, he got so mad at Tsu that he nearly fainted from lightheadedness.
During one stunt, Maelstrom nearly kicked the bucket. He got lost in the woods, and after a series of unfortunate events, he was swept downstream and eventually fished out of the river by Kiiro, a samurai who happened to be traveling nearby. The two ended up journeying together for two weeks before Maelstrom finally made it back home.
Any fear or uncertainty Maelstrom felt during this time he hasn’t expressed, he doesn’t talk about his brief time being out in the wild. If it’s just the two of them, he’s quiet around Kiiro, more relaxed and subdued. They have a tentative friendship, or maybe they just figured out how to coexist?
Maelstrom and Davey's relationship began when Davey took Maelstrom in after he got kicked out of his apartment. At the start of Maelstrom's BunTube career, Davey, a cinema enthusiast, started helping with editing and filming without being asked. Although Maelstrom was initially annoyed, he quickly realized the quality of his content improved, which softened his attitude. Maelstrom’s usual antagonistic nature didn’t affect Davey, who remained genuinely kind and unfazed, which left Maelstrom with an unexpressed, big, fat crush.
They bonded over their shared love of movies while living together, such topics Maelstrom is ashamed of liking because of the booksmart, ‘nerdy’ aspect of the hobby. He doesn’t need to feel that way around Davey, who is still oblivious to his affections. Since he doesn’t live with him anymore, Maelstrom secretly sneaks off to participate in Davey’s movie club. To see Davey and also have some relaxing fun about a guilty pleasure of his.
Danny was the small piece of stability Maelstrom clung to while dealing with the demon that raised them. Maelstrom's feelings are complicated— since he harbors bitterness over how helpless he felt as a kit, resenting the fact that he had to rely on Daniel. Although they’re aware of each other as adults in Burrowgatory, Maelstrom has deliberately avoided contact, not wanting to feel the insecurities of his past.
