The stunning sakura gardens in Shinjuku and endless nemophila fields at Maishima Park were incredibly inspiring to me—and so were all of the girls who dressed up in the cutest pastel pink and blue outfits to match their flower viewing trips!

This was my first time ever painting a doll in watercolors, and I took great care with preparation and tests ahead of time to make sure they would come out perfectly. I originally designed these cherubuns digitally, then used a lightbox to trace them onto 300gsm cotton watercolor paper. The lines were done with Prismacolor and Derwent colored pencils, and the colors with Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. The doll paintings are 11"x15", and the bun paintings are 7.5"x7.5".
