Kaphiri is a perpetually gloomy figure, quietly selling tofu hotdogs from his food cart with hardly a positive word to say. Stationed outside a popular sauna and yoga center, he spends his days seated behind his cart, gazing wistfully into the distance... Because of this behavior most people don't really bother to talk to him, expecting him to vent about whatever it is that has him so depressed.

Ironically, Ka would rather suffer in silence than talk about his troubles.

 

Kaphiri initially comes across as aloof and irritable, often appearing more annoyed than interested in anything happening around him. His stoic demeanor and terseness give him a rough first impression. But beneath this flimsy unapproachable exterior lies a man who genuinely values conversation and wants connection, even if he struggles to express it out of shame. If you start a conversation with Ka you'd discover he's actually very passionate about food and cooking! A surprise to most because of un-passionately he serves food. His passion of cooking and culinary arts is underlined with an extensive education in chemistry and alcohology.

 

Kaphiri was original creator and once rightful owner of Siren Wine and was struggling to keep the company afloat. His business was on the verge of failure when his long-lost twin brother, Ramses, appeared, seeking employment and support. Overjoyed by this unexpected reunion, Kaphiri welcomed Ramses into the company, impressed by his brother's keen intelligence and sharp business mind. Kaphiri (hopeful and naive) believed Ramses could be the partner he needed to save Siren Wine. Ramses quickly ascended through the company’s ranks, eventually surpassing him. Kaphiri, although initially pleased with his brother’s success, began to notice subtle changes in the company’s direction and culture, changes that increasingly sidelined him.

 

Unbeknowest to Ka, this was Ra's plan all along. Ramses seized control, erased all traces of Kaphiri from the company, usurped his fortune, smeared his reputation, and left him destitute.  Now, Kaphiri sells confectionery from his dinky (but popular) tofu hotdog cart along side the beach towns of Burrowgatory while Siren Wine thrives without him.

✎Design FUNFACTS

Kaphiri is his brother's polar opposite design wise while also clearly being related, given before they had all their other traits (both born with spikes, evil eye, tentacles) the two were visually identical.

Kaphiri's outfit colors are white & blue, Ramses'outfit colors are black & red. The Bubbles trait (while I added for visual intrigue) is to create almost a ring around his head that take up the same visual design space as Ra's big ass antlers.

I gave Kaphiri fuller facial hair and longer hair to set him apart from Ramses more and give a disheveled look.

Kaphiri may seem like a big paradox. He's gloomy, sad, depressed, and quiet-- and yet he parties at night, lingers in clubs, and enjoys to dance? Kaphiri’s vivacity is a remnant of the man he once was—confident, wealthy, and seemingly untouchable. He believes that this defines his true identity, who he wants to be again, who he felt best being. Ka struggles to reconcile this with his current situation of relative poverty and the destruction of his pride. The bright, assertive version of himself only feels natural when cloaked in the anonymity and darkness of nighttime life. It's challenging for him to express his true nature openly. Nighttime is a refuge where he can momentarily reclaim the confidence and charisma he longs to have again, even if it is fleeting.

Only now does Kaphiri acknowledge that his lack of focus and how he failed to take being a businessman seriously doomed his once beloved company.  He got swept up in riches and twinkling gold, which creates more layers to his shame. His life going downhill has created a thoughtful, timid, confused man who isn't sure if it's safe to be as kind, expressive, and as relaxed as he once was.

ka & ra / BROTHERS

Kaphiri never once thought about how much he'd like a brother until he heard he had one. Ramses coming into his life had Ka estatic, to him it sounded like a guaranteed bestfriend. It got even better; because Ramses was a man of the sciences as well! He was very impressed by his twin brother's knowledge and ability to convince a room. He took Ramses out clubbing, invited him to elegant and rich parties, shared his thoughts and aspirations, even gave Ra a place in his mansion home. Ramses was helping Kaphiri finally get his wine company to reach the heights he couldn't reach by himself, Ra to Ka was a man sent to realize his dreams.

Which is why the day Ramses came into his office and told him to get out from behind his desk still haunts him. There was nothing Kaphiri could do; Ramses got cushy with powerful suits and Kaphiri's own allies, and he had a list of evidence why the company should be ripped out of Kaphiri's own hands and placed into his.

Kaphiri thinks about how his trust was used against him, how he didn't appreciate what he had when he had it. He's unable to hate Ramses, which pisses him off, because with hindsight only now does he realize how easy it must've been for someone vile like Ra could take advantage of him. He can't hate Ramses because in Kaphiri's eyes, people like Ra are naturally sick and twisted, it's a part of their nature, and it was his fault for ever assuming Ramses was anything more than a lying, poisonous, slimy snake.

BUN'S BEGINNINGS / siren wine

Kaphiri founded Siren Wine from scratch, inspired by his first night in Burrowgatory when he drank a particularly shitty bottle of wine and was so utterly disappointed; it convinced him, a young nobody at the time, could create something better. He plunged into the world of enology, becoming engrossed in the intricacies of wine production. This journey also unexpectedly led him to discover a newfound love for cooking (which he mainly kept to himself as a personal hobby until it later became his job.)

Ka recognized the importance of connections within the industry. He networked extensively!  Forging relationships with vineyard owners, suppliers, distributors, and retailers. He found the social aspect of being rich and successful fun. He attended industry events, wine tastings, and trade shows, where he showcased his products and built a reputation for 'quality and innovation'-- though it was mainly all fluff and conjecture. Siren Wine achieved early popularity by capitalizing on its establishment decades ago, well before many of its competitors emerged.

Because getting super rich seemed effortless to Kaphiri (he just had to kiss some asses, throw parties, and profit), he spent most of his wealth on extravagant parties and displays of opulence. The company, however, faced significant internal challenges from Kaphiri's mismanagement, and including inconsistent product quality. Ka’s main focus on maintaining a polished exterior, coupled with his habit for lavish partying, diverted attention from addressing these critical issues, which eventually bubbled over years down the line and caused the brand to lose money year by year.
