How can the world be a place both so beautiful, so full of wonder, and also one filled with little horrors that can change a life irreversibly? That’s a question Azrael has been asking himself for a long time. He’s had to overcome much more than his young age should have allotted for; but he’s made it through with sweat and tears.. Mostly. His struggles with sensory issues, sleep, and eating have only progressed with time.

His current path as a medic for one of Burrowgatory’s most secretive fighters’ rings began with what seemed like a small problem: migraines. His basketmate came down with debilitating migraines that kept him from properly functioning. In that time while TOUKA could find reprieve only in the quiet company of his spirit motes, Az began to scramble to figure out what was wrong with his closest bun. For years taking care of the other was Az’s full time job; and he took it so far to heart that he fell behind on taking care of himself in its wake.. despite the doctors visits and research, it took stumbling upon a special Greed-Bun by happenstance while collecting a last ditch effort to unlock the truth.

Now with the danger passed and ongoing mitigation for its condition put into a solid routine, Azrael now works for that very same Greed-Bun who helped him: VISCILI AVRAAMOVICH. He’s still Touka’s full time caretaker and it is rarely far from Az’s side; but under Viscili’s guidance, Azrael has also grown into a skilled “healer”. Most days are spent wrangling stubborn patients and furthering his studies; but on the side he’s been taking walks in cemeteries to clear his head as he ponders the two mindsets he must continually find himself between. He’s been struggling with wanting to believe only what’s provable and not having the heart to dismiss his “twin” and bosses’ beliefs about spirit mote decorations.. Researchers have done studies, there’s nothing to point towards the spirit motes being anything but a phantasmic image created by Burrowgatory’s latent magic bleeding into Succubun dna.. But, the stories his sick charge used to tell him about his “ghosts” were hard to dismiss as simple fever dreams even with the circumstances.. So he spends his nights speaking with the graves and his own ghostly decorations just in case they’re right..

If he’s not at the cemetery or in his clinic, almost no one can find him. And that’s because he’s in the back recesses of SHUICHI’s garden’s either being fed or cuddled into naps by KUCHINASHI, the only bun even semi-publicly known to be able to truly make him eat or sleep without a fuss, or hidden in the trailer belonging to HADRON. Those stolen moments are where he’s most himself, swinging rapidly between the fast work (which earned him the nickname “hummingbird” after his latest myth binge) and the true sloth lying hidden beneath. And he’s almost certain that the heart he’d forgotten he had ,woke up when he got close to the grumpy Pride-Bun and his sweeter contract… Perhaps that’s why he can sleep here without the nightmares coming when he knows nowhere else except perhaps Kuchii’s fur where that dream can be a reality.
