Emptying the Wallet

Fortuna was so tired after working so very hard this week, so very arduous hours doing very boring activities like picking up groceries for other succubuns, working at Kitchen Goods, and running errands for people… that she couldn’t really remember the details about but spent enough time doing that she felt like she deserved to spoil herself a little… or a lot.

While walking down the road, her pondering of what she wanted was halted by a glowing sign outside of the Rabbit Hole beckoning for her to come inside. When she did, she realized just how empty it was and recalled that at this hour of day is when most buns were just finishing a lunch break. Though she loved a good social event, today Fortuna was very content with just having a couple drinks alone.

After Hops greeted her she approached the bar and picked a stool to sit on, glad to be off her hooves. There weren’t many carats in her purse, so she would have to forgo the fancy drinks she loved so very much today. She also noticed that Hops was nursing a hopscotch, probably to entertain her in her boredom. There really wasn’t much going on here.

“I’ll have a drabsinthe.”

“A bit strong for so early isn’t it?” Hops inquired, caught off guard by the choice. Still, she did get to work on fulfilling the order.

“I don’t got anything to do today so it’s not so bad. Can’t wait til tonight either since I have work in the morning. I’ve been so busy with working that it’s really hard to chill out and relax. You know what I mean?” Fortuna tiredly leaned on the counter, her cheek in her hand. 

“I understand that. Just the other night it was insanely busy. The stress of trying to keep up had me spilling drinks and messing up orders, it was just a bad night for me. It’s been really boring so far today but I’m honestly glad for it!”

Shortly later Fortuna was given her drink. She wasted no time starting on it, but didn’t finish it ridiculously fast. She still liked to taste and enjoy the drinks, and though she preferred the flavors of Angora sours and keratinis most, she figured it would be better to get the most out of her carat and get a few cheaper drinks she still liked instead of just a couple.

She ordered a few more drinks: a couple sin and tonics, another drabsinthe, and then finally a bourbon. Hops took all her orders along with a couple drinks for other patrons and they continued to chat about work and life and some general small talk. When her wallet was finally empty, Fortuna took some time to just relax at the counter before deciding to get up to leave. Much to her surprise, before she actually stood up, another drink appeared before her.

“I think you gave me the wrong order,” She remarked as Hops turned around to make someone else’s drink. All the alcohol she drank was really starting to get to her at this point and she was feeling in a very pleasant mood.

“I didn’t! You’ve been sitting here a while and keeping me company so I figured I’d give you a little gift as thanks. You seem like you enjoy Angora sours too,” Hops responded with a smile. She was referencing how tremendously fluffy Fortuna’s ears and hair were.

Fortuna grinned and happily accepted the gift. “I sure do! Thank you.”

She drank her drink a bit more slowly now as her intoxication overcame her. The chattiness amplified and Hops found herself laughing and chatting along with her. Sometimes patrons could be really awful drunks so it was nice that her friendly patron was now even more pleasant, and a bit amusing too. Fortuna managed to end up convincing Hops to make her another sin and tonic too.

For the sake of her ankles on the way out, Fortuna shifted into her bun form to not deal with balancing on her hooves. They said their goodbyes, and on the way out Hops called back out to her, “Feel free to stop by again this time next week too!”

“I definitely will!”
