Punks and Drunks
Tsubaki rarely felt nervous, but today was one of the few times she did. Ever the opportunist, Tsubaki was hired by someone to gather intel on a suspected criminal. This person frequented the areas that Jackal did, so her goal was to ask Jackal a few questions about them. There were only two problems with this: Jackal was notoriously hard to talk to, and Tsubaki herself didn’t generally feel comfortable around buns that possessed envy type horns. As a greed type, she liked to accumulate money and possessions, so she feared that envy types would be jealous of her wealth and try to steal from her. Realistically, she knew that any type of person could steal from her and that not all envy types were thieves, but it was a long held fear that stemmed from her childhood. She was given to Gremory as a child, and therefore was surrounded by many envy types growing up. Some of her experiences with envy types were not very pleasant.
Still, she had a job to do. Sucking in a deep breath, Tsubaki made her way over to the alleyway that Jackal was currently smoking in. “Hi, I was wondering if I could ask you--”
“Buzz off.” Jackal answered, barely sparing her a glance. “You aren’t cool enough to talk to me.”
“Not… cool enough…?” Tsubaki repeated, confused. “What do you mean by that?”
“Just look at you,” Jackal scoffed. “You look like you read Velveteen’s magazines every week. Don’t you have a fancy cocktail party to attend? Scram.”
Ah, so that was it. Jackal didn’t approve of her appearance. Well, she could change that. Turning on her heel, Tsubaki left the alley and returned home. Her wardrobe was extensive since she liked to collect most things, from clothes to swords to cards and everything in between.
Staring with her shirt, Tsubaki put on a tank top and a leather jacket. Next, she put on black biker pants with lots of belts and pockets. For accessories, she wore a spiked collar that resembled Jackal’s spiky bracelets, as well as some black leather gloves. For now though, she kept the gloves off because she wasn’t done. Next, Tsubaki worked on her makeup. She put on heavy black mascara with a deep purple eyeshadow and thick black eyeliner. Then, she applied deep purple lipstick that matched her eyeshadow. Her look was almost complete, but she could do more. Her next step was to style her hair into a spiky ponytail, using some hair spray to ensure that the spikes stayed up. Finally, she completed the look with some leather boots. For extra oomph, she even attached a knife to her belt. She wouldn’t use it, she just wanted Jackal to know that she meant business.
Returning to the alleyway, Tsubaki confidently walked up to Jackal. “Hey.”
Jackal was surprised to see her again, and even more surprised by her appearance. “Wow. You clean up nicely.” She was genuinely impressed. “Alright, I’ll bite. What do you want?”
Tsubaki smirked, glad that her plan worked. “I just have a couple questions for you.”
