POD 1: Gardening Hobby, Unlocked?
Rotte didn't get out of his workshop often, mostly when he finally hit a block; Where nothing looked right and he ended up scraping things over and over again. He groaned softly, rubbing his face, putting out his fires for the day. Maybe a change of scenery would help.
He walked through burrowgatory, his eyes just lazily looking at everything, all the buns running from store to store. He really needed to get out more, it was nice to see the city so lively.
It didn't take long until he ended up in the outskirts of town, lingering in front of an elevator. He really shouldn't; but in the end his curiosity got the best of him. He pushed a button, watching the doors slide open, he shifted to step in; at least it was straightforward. Four buttons. He pressed the other button that wasn't the open or closed door button. He jumped when the doors shut quickly and it started moving upwards. That was until he found himself looking in a soft glowing area; odd. He hadn't seen this place before. He crept out of the elevator to look around, much more cautiously. He passed by many cute little buildings and shops; definitely more bright and lively than the ones he saw in burrowgatory; that was until he ended up in front of a greenhouse. He blinked a few times before pushing the door open and creeping in once he realized no one was inside.
He looked at all the flowers and other plants. He couldn't help himself, he reached out to gently stroke a petal of a plant.
“If you're gonna touch, you're gonna help.” A sharp voice came from behind him.
Rotte jolted and stood up, spinning on his feet to stare at the cherubun standing there holding a basket of gloves, pruning shears, and other gardening goodies. “I'm sorry--?” He replied slowly, almost confused.
Primrose rolled his eyes and sat down the basket and put his hands on his hips. “You touch you help, capiché?”
Rotte mulled the demand in his head for a moment. “I'm no good at gardening,” He raised his hands up. “If anything I'll end up burning them.”
There was an unimpressed look on Primrose's face. “All succubuns say that, but they don't know it's a simple process until they actually try.” He shifted and went to put his gardening gloves on so he wouldn't get dirt under his nails. “Now, take this.” He grabbed Rotte's hand and put a pair of pruning shears in his hand. “Watch me, I don't repeat myself twice.”
“But yo-” before he could get out the full sentence Primrose gave him a sharp look, daring him to finish that sentence. Rotte shifted and motioned him to show him what he needed to do.
Primrose laid down a pad and kneeled on it and took the time to show the succubun what he needed to prune and what he shouldn’t. It was pretty straightforward, not that hard to comprehend, Rotte shifted and got down on the ground, looking over at Primroses hands to make sure he was gonna do it right, then his eyes went to the flower he was working on and taking off the dead parts, being extra careful not to accidently cut the bud of the flower off. He didn’t want to incur the wrath of the cherubun, who knew what they’d do.
After the flowers were pruned of all the dead, and parts that would cause problems, they went on to take away the clippings and put them in a compost so the cherubuns could use them later on flowers in the future. Circle of life and all. Then they started to work on digging up multiple lines of dirt, so they could start on planting some new seeds. By the time the flowers started to bloom and bud the older flowers would be ready to harvest and be used in ambrosia and other things. It was easier to have something constantly growing rather than letting everything grow then have to wait for it to grow. If they did that they could end up running out of ingredients to work with and then they’d be screwed.
After Rotte patted down the last line of dirt, he sat back on the heels of his feet and looked at the progress they made. It was weird he was expecting this to be annoying and more than anything he was expecting to fuck up majorly; whether it was cutting off the head of the flower or accidentally uprooting the entire thing. It was weird but Primrose may have unlocked a new hobby in him. He wasn’t expecting it, that was for sure.
While he was in his own head something knocked into his arm; blinking he looked up at the looming figure above him. “Huh?”
“We have to water them if we expect them to bloom.” Primrose held out a watering can to the other. Rotte took it and looked at it then the water in it. Right! Flowers needed water to thrive. He shifted, getting up, and heading to the other side of the flower plots starting to water both the actual flowers and the new seedlings. He made sure not to miss anything; after all it’d suck if he forgot something and it didn’t grow or the flower died.
Once they had everything watered he sat the watering can down and looked at their handy work. He exhaled softly and looked over at Primrose. “I don’t think I introduced myself, my name is Rotte.”
Primrose glanced over before holding out his hand. “Primrose.” He stated bluntly but softly.
“Oh, the head of the heavenly embassy, right?” He tilted his head to the side some; he was pretty sure he remembered correctly.
Primrose looked absolutely stunned for a moment. “You..know about me?” That was weird, a majority of succubuns didn’t know about him unless they had made their way through the embassy whether purposely or accidentally.
“Yeah, when Dove appeared appeared and we were given access to the embassy I figured I should familiarize myself with some of the cherubuns just incase I came in contact with any of you.” He shifted and moved to the next plot of flowers and looked them over, pruning the pieces that needed it.
“I see.” Primrose said carefully, studying him for a moment before waving his hand. “Very well, I’ll leave you then. When you leave, please close the door after yourself. I don’t need pesky little imps getting in and munching on the flowers.” He made a small face, remembering the last time he was helped and imps got in last time and ruined the last batch of flowers.
Rotte nodded. “Of course, I’m not one to leave the doors open. He watched Primrose leave the garden before he shifted and went to go through the process of caring for the flowers. He couldn’t help it, he’d hate to care for one set of flowers and ignore the rest.
Once he made his rounds to the different plots he got up and wiped his hands off, and stared at his handy work, before smiling to himself. Maybe he wasn’t as much as a fuck up as he thought. He made his way out of the greenhouse, making sure to shut the door nice and tight before heading home.
