Sharing a Smoke
Adelaide rolled her shoulders as she locked up the door to her book shop with a soft sigh. It had been incredibly busy day with patrons wanting to know how to do various fibercrafts. Knitting, crocheting, weaving, spinning yarn, dying yarn and such. Not to mention people coming in for books on varying topics. Through Adelaide had to use her stern voice to toss a couple out for trying to have sex among yarn.
Despite that, Abby did enjoy her work and hobbies. Smiling to herself, she pulled her tote bag full of projects and personal things up onto her shoulder as she set on her usual route back to her personal modest burrow. It was a quite quiet night as there were barely any buns around which had her rather curious as she often could spot few nightbuns simply smoking or drinking; or heading to somewhere to get some sexy action. Must because of the influx of police from earlier due to a rowdy scene at a nearby shop?
Shrugging to herself, she rummaged around in her tote bag only to curse under her breath when she found her lighter but not her cigarette pack.
"Ah right I ran out the other day didn't I? Damnit I forgot to pick up more....." She also knew there would not be any stores on her route that would be open at this late hour. Look like she was going to have to make a quick detour to buy some. That was not in her plans as Abby was rather hungry and wanted to eat some of the soup she had prepared the night before; leeks and potatoes. Adelaide was going to have to forego a smoke tonight as she headed straight home to enjoy her dinner. Perhaps she hid an extra pack somewhere in her burrow?
There were none. Not only that but Flame, her Fiendish Candyl had gotten into a scruffle with Generosity the Chastitia and most of the soup got spilled in the chaos which had Abby immediately putting Flame in timeout as she knelt down to clean up the mess while muttering curses under her breath about her hard work getting ruined.
The remaining soup had been rather delicious but Abby was more agitated now. Checking on Generosity to make sure it was okay before taking both Fiendish and Albino Candyls with her as she departed to purchase some packs as she was now desperate for a fix. Light the Albino Candyl settled down on her shoulder as Flame floated moodily behind Adelaide as she briskly walked down the roads to purchase her packs. Once she had gotten her packs, she resumed her journey home only to pause past an alley as she had spotted a familiar envy lurking about.
Peeking in, she was right and moved closer while calling out in her usual sweet tone
"Jackal~? Is that you, dear?" Jackal jerked up with a scowl before relaxing slightly as Abby approached her.
"Yeah? What's up?" Jackal was slightly defensive but Abby easily ignored that in favor of speaking
"I did not expect to see you here. Are you smoking?"
Jackal glanced down at cigarette in her hand before eying Abby
"Want some company?" Adelaide offered as the two Candyls around her floated slightly. Jackal stared in bewilderment as the kind woman easily pulled out a cigarette of her own.
"You smoke?"
"I used to be a heavy smoker, now I only do it when I'm stressed out." Adelaide admitted as she lifted the cigarette for Flame to light up which had Jackal staring at the imp.
"What the fuck? OH SHT I MEAN-"
"Cursing is fine" The greed doll chuckled at the flustered Envy who looked away with a scowl.
Abby leaned against the brick wall across from Jackal as she took a long drag from her cigarette. Jackal eyed her as the older Greed blew a long stream of smoke upwards with a soft sigh.
"You are a surprising bun." Jackal pointed out and Abby raised an eyebrow.
"You look sweet and you act very lovely yet you don't care if I fuckin smoke or smoke."
"I was not always this way." The older woman shot Jackal a bittersweet smile
"Was involved in lot of dangerous stuff that I luckily got out. Would it surprise you if I also drink?" Abby looked amused as Jackal's jaw dropped in shock. Abby took another drag from her cigarette as Jackal pondered what she had just learned.
"Swing by my store sometime. I do like to have company." Abby smiled lightly as she easily passed over her business card to Jackal "My only employee doesn't smoke so I rarely indulge in taking breaks."
Taking one last drag out of her cigarette, she easily crushed it under a shoe as her imps returned to her shoulders. "Was lovely to share a smoke with you!" Adelaide smiled sweetly as she departed from the alley.
