Dear Melangel,

It has been quite some time since my last letter.

It has become apparent to me that the number of Cherubuns seeking refuge in Burrowgatory is growing, and with each passing day, I feel that this number will only increase.

I can imagine that this fact was not something to your satisfaction, but if you'll allow me my candor...

It warms my heart to know that my brothers and sisters have chosen to give Burrowgatory and all the succubuns who live here a chance.

But then again, I don't think you are as passionate about this subject as I am. So I believe a change of topic is in order and this time, I must share with you the story of our recent adventure at Dan's stalls at the festival.

Dan is a hardworking bun that owns his own shop that sells confections, but he seems to take big pride on his mochi. According to others buns, he trained extensively to make sure that his mochi were crafted to perfection.

As I mentioned before, Jackal and I found ourselves entangled in the excitement of the Mochi Moon festival, and our journey brought us to Dan's shop.

The line at Dan's shop seemed never-ending, the venue was crowded like a river of excited buns waiting in line for the chance to get their small paws on one of the pastries. Buns of all shapes and sizes, their eyes fixed on the display of colorful mochi that adorned the storefront.

As Jackal and I approached the end of the line, my heart fluttered with excitement. The aroma of freshly baked pastries filled the air, mingling with the scent of anticipation that seemed to permeate all the place.

I couldn't help but notice how Jackal's usuall demeanor softened as she caught sight of the colorful mochi on display. Her eyes darted from one mochi to another in childlike wonder.

I could see the excitement building up within her and I would swear that I could actually hear Jackal's belly growling the closer we got. Her eyes gleamed with anticipation, reflecting the vibrant hues of the mochi. It was a rare sight to behold, witnessing her guarded exterior melt away in the face of something so simple.

It was adorable, really.

As we finally reached the front of the line, Dan welcomed us with a small nod, his eyes twinkling with pride. Proof that he was more than pleased with all the traffic inside his shop and the number of buns enjoying his creations.

And what delightful creations they were.

The display in front of us was a true work of art, Jackal and I stood there, momentarily frozen in awe, - rows upon rows of meticulously crafted mochi, each one a tiny masterpiece. The pastel colors glistened under the soft glow of the shop's warm lights, like delicate gems waiting to be savored.

It was almost difficult to know which one to choose.

But when we eventually made up our minds, I have to admit that we ended up leaving the shop with a way heavier shopping bag than we had originally planned.

Of course Jackal wasted no time in devouring her one of her "Dmon Pepper Mochi" as soon as we left the store, a seasonal product which Dan had made available in celebration of the festival. A bit strong to my taste but I can assure you that my "Ice Cream Mochi" was no less delicious.

And I have to admit that this time I may have indulged myself a little too much.

Once again, I feel like I've gone on too long on my tale and so I guess I should bid you farewell.

Sincerely,

Dove.

----------

During supper Dove sensed something was different with Jackal, they couldn't say for sure what it was, but after a little more than a month of living under the same roof, Dove liked to believe they knew Jackal at least a little.

"Is there something amiss?" Dove inquired when they had finally finished with the dishes.

Jackal didn't respond, her face slightly reddened. Then, almost as if in a rush, she went to the kitchen where she took a box out of the fridge.

"Here....I got this for you."

Dove, still not quite understanding what was going on, simply pulled the lid of the small box open. But as soon as she saw the contents of the box, they chest warmed.

"Jackal...this is!" - the little cherubun said, seeing the "Ice Cream Mochi" lined up inside the box.- "You didn't need, but thank you!"

The flush on Jackal's face only intensified what make Dove giggle.

"I'll brew some tea then, then we can sit and eat together. What do you think?"

"Sounds like a good idea..." - Jackal answered still feeling a little embarrassed, but soon began to help Dove get things ready.
