With a frustrated curse under her breath and quickly narrowing eyes, Jackal gripped the lock-pick tool in her hand tightly. She spoke harshly in a low whisper. “Are you two going to help me or not?”

Michel looked up from where he was inspecting his nails. “And ruin my manicure?” He rolled his eyes, “Honestly Jackal, how do you do anything when you ask questions like that.”

Jackal’s jaw tightened as she turned her attention to Cero.

He stared blankly at her, before leaning against Michel’s shoulder. “Well I don’t know how to lock-pick. You’re the one that wanted to break into Mercy’s office.”

Of course both Michel and Cero felt vaguely understanding towards Dove and their uncertainty over who they were, but that was about as far as the pair were willing to care.

Jackal took a deep breath, wondering why she thought inviting these two along was a good idea. They complained a lot and they didn’t like getting dirty. “Can you two just make sure Mercy isn’t on their way here? The last thing I want right now is to be caught.”

Michel glanced at Cero, before dramatic leaning against him. “Because you want to help your new true love?”

Cero smiled lazily, hugging onto Michel, “I’m sure Dove is waiting day and night for you to come back home.”

Jackal flushed, turning back towards the back. “I’m not listening to you idiots, quit all of that nonsense.”

Michel scoffed, “You can think we’re idiots but that doesn’t change the way you’re always looking at them… which honestly I don’t get. It’s so weird that they don’t have horns.”

Cero was quick to agree, “I know right? Their head is so empty, I can’t even imagine what that’s like.” He couldn’t help but reach up to poke at his own horns, as if he wanted to make sure they were still there.”

Jackal scowled, “Don’t talk about them that way, we don’t even know why they don’t have horns.”

Michel raised an eyebrow, “Oh stop talking like we’re being mean, no one else in the burrows is without horns. It looks off.”

Cero nodded, “Once more buns see them, they’re going to be surprised too. Only buns without horns are the babies.”

Michel shuttered, “Ugh babies, I don’t like them. I’ve seen some of them before and they’re so loud. I even heard they get all sticky for no reason!”

“Ew! Do they really?”

“Would you two shut the hell up…” Jackal hissed, looking around them for a moment before she settled and went back to lock-picking. “It’ll be bad if we all get caught breaking in.”

Michel shrugged, “What would even happen? They yell at us?”

Cero grinned, knocking his head against Michel. “Careful they might send Oleander after us, either to lecture us or try to fuck us.”

Michel covered his mouth, not wanting Jackal to see him grin or laugh, “Don’t joke about that, he tried that last time I went to confessional. I had to tell him he wasn’t my type.”

“Yeah because your type is geriatric.”

“Cero!” Michel pouted, grabbing onto his best friend. “All of the guys I’m in look hot, you’re just don’t understand.”

Cero was laughing softly as Michel shook him.

Meanwhile Jackal sighed heavily, those two would be the death of her. It was bad enough that they barely bought back any information about feathers and birds, but now they were always gossiping whenever they had to do important things.

Still they were the only ones that could help her with Dove, so for now, she was stuck with them.
