[PROMPT] Sleight of hand

Ignition huffs briefly as he stares down the practice lock in front of him. Jackal stands behind him, watching carefully. Misty had been watching too, but they had fallen asleep since Ignition was taking so long to manage the task. He grits his teeth, fangs pressing down against his lower lip with frustration and pressure. He may even be sweating, that is how much he's struggling with the practice exercise. They had to get into Mercys study...he doesn't understand why Jackal can't just do it herself.

"Nahh nahh - You're not followin' instructions."

Ignition huffs in frustration and flops back onto his ass, scowling at Jackal as his horn flame flares up with irritation. "I thought this was supposed to be easier with doll hands." He grumbled. Man. This really is NOTHING like that fantasy game he used to play, the lock picking in that was challenging but in a fun way, this is just frustrating. Ignition isn't a quitter though, and he really wants to get that feather back because he doesn't trust Mercy at all. After that one time he caught them stealing he's really become antsy over the thought of them continually not giving the feather back. What if something happened to it? They would never be able to help Misty if Mercy had lost or damaged it!

At this point he's kind of considering his pet imp Explosion as a better lock picking candidate though. The small sceil sleeps comfortably over his shoulder, the movement and tense wrestling with the lock hadn't even stirred him. Nor had his owners frustrated fall.

He gets back up and takes a deep breath, exhaling softly. "Okay. What."

"Wrench in first, we already added some lubricant substance so it should be less tense."

Ignition puts the tension wrench in carefully, getting it as far in as possible before glancing back at Jackal with uncertainty. Patience. He just needed a little patience.

Once the wrench was situated in the lock and showed no signs of coming out, he kept light pressure on it to make sure he wouldn't lose his spot.

"Good, Now take the small pick and put it in over the wrench, you should start to be able to click the pins in place" Jackal crosses her arms as she watches him intently. If she CAN teach another bun to lock-pick effectively, she will.

With much more patience and care than all previous attempts, Ignition slowly begins fiddling with the pick at the first position, it takes a minute or so but he hears a triumphant click and the first pin gives way.

"Good, now take it out and push it back in to the second position."

Ignition is a little worried taking it out will release the first pin but surprisingly it doesn't. He isn't sure if thats because its a practice lock or if certain locks just exist that way. He removes the pick, twists the lock slightly using the wrench and then puts the pick back in, pushing it to the second pin. This one takes a little more twisting and pressure-pointing, but he does get it to give way. He repeats the remove and re-insert method multiple times until he gets to the fifth and final pin in the lock.

At this point there is an immense pressure on his shoulders, and he can feel the nerves clamming up his hands slightly but he doesn't loose the wrench. His hands steady as he puts the pick back in for the last time and with surprising speed compared to the last three he locks the pin down and the actual lock springs open.

Ignition lets out a massive sigh of relief and pulls back, putting the lock-picking tools down and heaving like he had somehow run a marathon. "Is there a reason i just went through the stress of a lifetime?"

Jackal snorts a laugh and rolls her eyes "Yes. Because if we go to break into the office and i hear Mercy comin', I'm gunna have to distract her which means getting IN the office is gunna be up to you. Looking for the feather is also gunna be up to you, 'cause i can buy way more time with that one than you can, I am sure."

"Well for both of our sakes i hope Mercy is fuckin busy or whatever, That plan is shoddy as shit" Ignition huffs.
