Hawthorne Hellebore, known better as “Thorne” to most everyone around him, is a calm, charismatic bartender for the Gilded Lily cocktail lounge. He carries himself with an easy self-assuredness that seems to rub off on the people around him. A quick conversation with Hawthorne can often leave one’s worries feeling distant, as if washed away by his confident demeanor and silky-smooth voice. Though the troubles of life will always come back, Thorne is forever welcoming to those in need of a brief distraction- be it through conversation, alcohol, or more physical means, Hawthorne is always ready to assist.

Utterly insatiable and a lover of all, Thorne has amassed quite a collection of lovers and partners alike, some more permanent than others. He affectionately refers to them all as members of his "flock", and does his best to tend to all of them. He keeps detailed notes on every doll drawn into his collection, and is always more than eager to put those notes to good use to please his lovers. Those closest to him are often long-term partners, his beloveds above all else, and they all are spoiled quite heavily- borderline worshipped in some cases. He loves his inner circle deeply, and would do anything for any of them in a heartbeat.

✎Design Notes

Hawthorne's design is based SUPER loosely on a scene from the horror game "Still Wakes the Deep"- in which the main character ends up back under the oil rig the game is set on around sunset. I found the scene utterly gorgeous, especially the water, and wanted to take those colours and just. Drop them right onto a bun. As it so happened, I had noted wanting a bartender with Aqueous as part of the Lily's staff, so naturally things fell into place from there~

When drawing Thorne in either form, my biggest note to myself is to never make him look angry. He's one of those characters that never stops smiling, and is always meant to look laid back and super chill no matter what.

★Trivia

He often uses his work at the Church to scout out new potential additions to his flock.
He keeps a mostly nocturnal schedule, and sleeps quite heavily. He prefers to sleep in doll form, and often encourages partners to "have their fun" with him while he's out.
Used to be a mortician, but quit his job when a scandal amongst the mortuary staff threatened to rope him into it as well. Due to his time working with the dead, he's developed quite the strong fascination with death and decay, and often finds himself drawn to works of art that explore such topics.
Thorne has an irrational fear of Cygnettes and Sceils! They freak him out super bad, and are some of the very few things that can get him to lose his cool.
He glitters in low lighting, due to the soft glow of his Aqueous catching on all his piercings.
He's a deeply religious bun, but tends to keep his bartending and church work separate. There's a time and a place for everything, after all.
He has a feakishly high alcohol tolerance, and can drink most buns under the table.
While he generally doesn't like keeping imps, he has one Bonezo he's quite terribly fond of.
