MYO-5144: Var
Var
(VAHR)
HE/THEY/SHE . TOYHOUSE
Handmade Soap Merchant. Employed by a small business. Goes door-to-door sometimes.
Party “Sorcerer” (Thaumaturge) in Bungeon Dungeon LARP Adventures
Personality:
Var is mostly down-to-earth, inexperienced, and inquisitive. Not super loud, but not shy by any means. Has an innocent admiration for his elders and highly skilled people. And he does his best to get along with others, even though he has a slight inferiority complex.
He has trouble valuing himself sometimes, often commenting off-handedly that his feelings don't matter or that he's less important than others. Due to the mistreatement he experienced growing up with an extremely lustful demon, who heavily neglected him and even allowed others to emotionally abuse him so long as the demon's multiple lovers were appeased, Var is also extremely resistant to the idea of being in any such relationships himself. And he is super in denial about his attraction to anyone, or the fact that he has a high libido.
He fears becoming a person as awful as his demon parental figure. It's to the point he spends half of his existence flustering internally as he desperately battles to squash every flicker of such feelings. He says he just wants to live a fun life, without the messy distraction of relationships. But, of course, if he could grow to love himself more and realize his personal love/sex life would not have to mirror his demon's, Var would very much would enjoy fulfilling his buried craving for love and validation.
Despite Var being so hard on himself, he is actually quite brave, compassionate, and resourceful, with good survival instincts that clash with his sense of injustice. He's the type that can't seem to leave people alone if they appear to be in trouble, even when he knows it means he will get caught in the crossfire. He might not have it in him to make grand wealthy gestures, but he has been known to step in when someone seems afraid, extend a helping hand if they look a lil down, lend an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on, and even risk his life to stand up against those he thinks are wrong. He's not a fan of cruelty, and there is a secretly rebellious side of him in there somewhere that can be provoked under the right circumstances.
Most of all, he strives to repay the kindness of those who made him feel welcome in his new life in the Burrowgatory. There's not much he feels he can do for them except to pay the good will forward. So he does his best to be the kind of bun they can be proud of.
As dutiful as Var may be about her soap making job, she complains on occasion about the daily grind of door-to-door sales and/or deliveries. She'd rather gave more free time to spend unwinding with her friends. She likes ball sports like pick-up games of soccer, basketball, or volleyball. She also likes cars, even though she can't afford one yet. There's old car repair shop that she visits just to admire the junkers that she thinks someday she might be able to save up for. In the meantime, she does ride a cute yellow motor scooter that her bosses let her take wherever (usually for deliveries).
Var rents a room in her soap boss' house, a little place in the suburbs. Her room is simply furnished, though she owns a lot of potted plants, and her tiny closet is absolutely stuffed with clothes. If you catch her at home, she is often making soap and candles while listening to sports or music (pop-rock, rock, and hip hop are her go-tos) on the radio in the background, reading novels borrowed from the library (action, thriller, and secretly smut), or borrowing her bosses' computer.
She likes tech, but doesn't own very much of it personally. Has a touchscreen cellphone, and not even the most current or high end kind, but it works.
Var is really good at navigating the city and giving people directions. He can't eat out much on his own pay check, but he still seems to know where to find all of the best hole in the wall restaurants. He and Imon sometimes go bargain hunting together when shopping, since Imon's thriftiness comes in handy. Var actually really likes playing dress up and stuff. Of the many clothes he owns, however, he doesn't have many dresses, nor anything for especially fancy for formal occassions. He isn't opposed to wearing dresses, though he might get a little embarrassed if anyone compliments him on it.
Var can be a tad happily flustered over praise in general, and tries to shrug it off like it's no big deal. He is not good at hiding his emotions though, so his glee or annoyance is usually written all over his face. And he seems all the more eager for positive attention. Will tag along like a puppy if he wants that from people.
