Law was originally an avid gambler with their late partner. They bit off more than they could chew with some bad bets and ran from their loan sharks and their large debt, unfortunately for them they were caught and narrowly escaped death by finding refuge in the Church of Sulfur. They managed to get away relatively unscathed aside from their missing eye but their partner passed from their injuries. The head priest decided to take the opportunity to bring on a new member of the church, paying off Law's debts to the loan sharks and the debt is now owed to the Church.
