MYO-390: MONSTA
MONSTA
Eerie · Mystical · Reserved · Unpredictable
Monsta, known by close friends as "Kookie," is a quiet and mysterious bun in Burrowgatory. Growing up, they were always a bit of a loner, not shunning others but rarely forming close bonds outside of a couple of close friendships. Monsta’s caretakers and fellow buns never fully understood why they kept to themselves, but it wasn’t long before rumors began swirling around them. Some believe Monsta is haunted, possessed, or perhaps even a ghost bun—a reputation likely fueled by their fascination with the supernatural. Monsta has an uncanny ability to see and hear things others can’t, leading them to carry mala beads, a tool they believe helps them connect with wandering spirits. Though far from a monk, Monsta uses these beads in an attempt to communicate with or appease the dead, even if their methods are improvised and based on instinct rather than formal knowledge.
When not attempting to commune with spirits, Monsta is out exploring rumored haunted locations or searching for wild imps. They have a strange fondness for these creatures, finding them cute even when most of them prefer to bite or flee. This unusual combination of ghost-hunting and imp-chasing has earned them the affectionate nickname "Kookie" from those who know them best—a lighthearted nod to their odd yet endearing pursuits. Monsta’s life is a series of quiet adventures, chasing after the mysteries of Burrowgatory’s darker corners and hoping to one day connect with all the elusive imps that cross their path.

Design Notes
Monsta’s design is an intriguing blend of mysticism and mystery. Their most distinctive feature is the pair of giant nubs on their head, which are horns—not cat ears—adding to their unique, otherworldly appearance. Their ears are short, never extending past elbow length, giving them a neat and contained look. Monsta’s monk beads, a signature item, are always present, representing their connection to the spirit world and enhancing their mysterious aura. They also feature sprinkle-like markings, adding a playful yet enigmatic touch to their look. Their satyr legs showcase a smooth gradient from skin to fur, completing their ethereal, slightly ghostly aesthetic.
Trivia
- Monsta claims they can sometimes smell faint, unusual scents they believe are tied to spirits—like burnt wood or fresh flowers—even when there's no logical source.
- Monsta often hums a haunting, low melody when they’re alone, which many buns find eerie. They say it helps them “feel the spirits.”
- Monsta loves picking up odd items from their spirit-hunting trips—anything from broken charms to mysterious stones. They claim these items have "energy" attached to them.
- Occasionally, Monsta will have quiet, one-sided conversations with what they call “friendly shadows,” often leading to some odd looks from other buns passing by.
Relationships
Monsta and Isolde share a quiet, unspoken bond rooted in their mutual connection to the supernatural. With both able to see spirits that others can’t, Monsta was one of the first to understand Isolde’s unique experiences without judgment. This shared ability has made Monsta feel like an older sibling to Isolde, guiding her gently through the eerie and often misunderstood world they both see. While Isolde’s social awkwardness keeps her at a distance from others, Monsta’s steady, calming presence allows her to feel accepted, and together they explore Burrowgatory’s mysteries, finding comfort in their shared understanding of the unseen.
Monsta and March share a unique, if slightly humorous, friendship built around their shared interest in ghost hunting. They first met during a nighttime exploration when March, ghost hunting with his boyfriend Mercury, nearly fainted upon spotting Monsta and their friend Isolde lurking in the shadows. Since then, they’ve formed a quirky ghost-hunting team, with Monsta’s calm, eerie presence balancing out March’s anxious, crybaby nature. Monsta often helps March track down the playful spirits that tend to escape his grasp, making sure he feels a bit braver each time they venture into haunted sites together (though that's far from happening). Their friendship thrives in the dark corners of Burrowgatory, where they both find connection amidst whispers of the supernatural.
Monsta and Mercury share a fascination with the supernatural, though their approaches couldn’t be more different. Mercury’s bold, thrill-seeking personality and love for haunted spots brings an exciting energy to Monsta’s quieter, more introspective style of ghost hunting. Monsta finds Mercury’s fearlessness intriguing, even amusing at times, especially since Mercury’s streaming adventures often lead them into darker corners of Burrowgatory. Together, they make an unlikely but effective team, with Monsta’s knowledge of spirits complementing Mercury’s fearless curiosity. Their friendship has turned into a unique partnership, blending Monsta’s quiet mystery with Mercury’s lively, adventurous spirit.
