Jackal seems dazzled by Wonderland Casino now that she’s seeing it for the first time without sneaking around in the dead of night. Hops hurries the two of you out back to the gardens—you’re just in time for the bloom.
As the warm rays of daylight begin to shine on the hazebloom beds, a slow transformation begins. The small blue buds that you’ve carefully cultivated over the past few weeks gently turn up towards the sky, and their delicate petals start to unfold, exposing the soft green glow of their centers.
As more and more of the flowers open, they begin to give off the green haze that gave them their name, like a shimmering mist sweeping over the gardens. The smell is heavenly, but makes you feel a bit light and dizzy. Hops hands you and Jackal scraps of cloth to hold over your noses and mouths in case you want to avoid becoming intoxicated by it.
Strange imps with gossamer wings begin buzzing through the garden, setting to work pollinating the hazeblooms. You wonder if maybe they’re the origin of Hops’ legends about gossamer-winged fairies… They make for a beautiful sight, bobbing and weaving amongst the glowing flowers and shimmering haze.
After watching for a while, the flowers seem to have settled, and the initial billows of green mist have mostly dispersed. Hops grabs a pair of gardening shears and snips a few small blossoms before waving you and Jackal to follow her back inside.
Hops mixes you up whatever drinks you and Jackal request. She tucks into her own hazebloom cocktail with incredible delight, falling into a dreamy, mellow mood without seeming to care if she’s on the clock. You can hardly blame her for that, after everything you’ve been through today... Jackal seems uncomfortable at first, but slowly starts to relax as the three of you drink and chat, joking about everything that you went through trying to catch the “garden pests.” Hutch sure is going to be disappointed to hear the truth.
The hazebloom harvest will be on the small side this year, but at least all the trouble was worth it in the end.
