Design Guide - Restrictions and Traits

General Restrictions

There are some succubun design restrictions that don't fall under the other categories covered by the Design Guide. This includes, but is not limited to:

Disallowed Content

  • Succubuns inspired by copyrighted characters. Designs found to be based on copyrighted characters during the submission stage cannot be resubmitted, even with edits. Designs found to be based on copyrighted characters after approval will be voided, and you will receive a strike for breaking our TOS. These limitations extend to naming succubuns you did not design after copyrighted characters that resemble them.
  • Succubuns based on insensitive stereotypes. This includes (but is not limited to): generic "tribal" designs, sexualized geishas, "voodoo" or "witch doctor" designs that take from popcultural stereotypes about the Vodou religion, "g*psy" designs that take from popcultural stereotypes about the Romani people, and "w*ndigo" or "skinwalker" designs that take from closed Native American spiritual beliefs.
  • Depictions of firearms—these do not exist in Burrowgatory.

Sensitive Content

  • Depictions of open wounds or blood—per the TOS, this content requires a warning, which is not possible on the masterlist.
  • Depictions of blunts or bongs—per the TOS, this content requires a warning, which is not possible on the masterlist.
    • Cigarettes, cigars, and pipes are acceptable on the masterlist.
  • Depictions of erect genitalia or bodily fluids—per the TOS, this content requires a warning, which is not possible on the masterlist.
    • Nonsexual bottom nudity is allowed in additional reference images, but not for the main masterlist image.

Art Issues

  • Props, accessories, or traits that take up more than 1/3 of the masterlist thumbnail.
  • Designs that are too low in contrast between the body colors and lineart for the different features to be easily discernible.
  • Lineart that is lighter than the body color of the bun.
  • Clothing or props that appear to be affected by a trait (i.e. a flaming sword)

Traits

All succubuns are limited to a maximum of 10 traits, while cherubuns are limited to a maximum of 5. Sinful and seasonal traits are added to succubuns with Drinks and Seasonal Drinks. Saintly and seasonal traits are added to cherubuns with Ambrosia. Special traits are added to both with Coffee.

The rules surrounding the use of traits are the most complicated, as each trait has its own rules, as well as judgments on how it can be combined with other traits that cannot all be written down.

Please make sure to carefully read the trait description for each and every trait you intend to use to learn the rules for that specific trait.

Common Trait Combinations

Some traits can be combined with others to create new effects. This is allowed on a case-by-case basis, but the examples below are commonly accepted.

  • Bat Wings and Claws can be combined for wings with a claw at the tip.
  • Bat Wings and Skeletal can be combined for skeletal wings. These wings must be fully bone with no skin stretched between them, with at least semi-realistic bat wing skeletal anatomy.
  • Grand Horns and Scales can be combined for horns with a scaly texture.
  • Devil’s Tongue and Tentacles can be combined for a tentacle tongue. This counts towards the 8 tentacle limit.
  • Flora can be combined with Glassy, Crystalline, or Gilded for flowers made of glass, crystal, or metal.
  • Skeletal can be combined with Glassy, Crystalline, or Gilded for bones made of glass, crystal, or metal.
  • Mushrooms can be combined with Glow for glowing mushrooms.
  • Spirit Motes can be combined with Hellfire or Cloudy for fiery or smokey spirits.
  • Star Motes can be combined with Hellfire for flaming stars.
  • Star Motes, Spirit Motes, and Flutter Motes can be combined with Shimmer for shimmery motes.
  • Glassy can be combined with Crystalline for faceted glass.
  • Marionette can be combined with Flora or Glassy for wooden or glass ball-jointed doll limbs.

Disallowed Trait Combinations

Conversely to the above, some trait combinations have been specifically rejected.

  • Star Motes, Spirit Motes, and Flutter Motes cannot be combined with traits that would make them solid.
  • Perky Ears cannot be combined with Long Ears for excessively tall ears.
  • Tailless cannot be combined with traits like Tentacles or Fins to add a different type of "tail."
  • Skeletal cannot be combined with Feathered Wings, as bird wings do not have bones extending down through the wings the way bats do.
  • Skeletal cannot be combined with Gossamer Wings or Tentacles, as they do not have bones.
  • Skeletal cannot have other traits coming out of the eye socket, or coming from underneath the bones or from cracks in the bones.
  • Tentacles cannot be combined with Angora Fur or Scales to change the texture of the tentacles.
  • Marionette cannot be combined with Tentacles or any type of Wings to make them ball-jointed.

Mimicking Traits

Succubuns cannot have markings, accessories, or other features that could be mistaken for traits they do not have. Some examples are as follows:

  • Succubuns cannot wear fake wings due to confusion with the various Wings traits. Small wing-shaped elements in clothing may be accepted if visually clear.
  • Dolls cannot have claw-like nails without the Claws trait. However, fake nails/long manicured nails are allowed, so long as they don’t resemble sharp/curved claws.
  • Succubuns who are smoking cannot have unrealistically colored or shaped smoke due to confusion with the Cloudy trait.
  • Without the Flora trait, flower accessories are limited to the bun’s head, unless visibly attached as an accessory or to a piece of clothing.
  • Golden-colored body parts cannot have a shine to them without the Gilded trait.
  • Fins cannot mimic Gossamer Wings, and vice versa.
  • Buns cannot have a scale pattern on their fur due to confusion with the Scales trait.
  • Buns cannot have a stitched pattern on their fur or scars that resemble stitches due to confusion with the Stitched trait.
  • Etc.

Non-Existent Traits

The following features are one that would require a bespoke trait, if those traits existed. As such, they cannot be used in succubun designs. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Extra horns/unicorn horns
  • Gooey, melty, or dripping parts
  • Additional eyes or mouths, or markings that could be mistaken for them
  • Feathers, or markings that could be mistaken for them
  • Animal features such as antennae, manes, ears, or tails, or traits that are styled to look like them
  • Shapes floating around the bun (except for those created by a Motes trait)
  • Actual food (not accessories) stuck to the body
  • Mechanical/robotic parts
  • Hairless succubuns
  • Dwarfism or gigantism

Note: While some features that were previously on this list have since been added as real traits, that does not mean that they all will be. Many of these are not intended to ever be allowed on site.

Angelic & Demonic Features

Succubuns cannot possess saintly traits, and cannot have accessories or traits that mimic them. This means that the following are not allowed on succubun designs:

  • Halo-crowns or other accessories that resemble halos
  • Traits such as Hellfire or Cloudy forming rings around body parts
  • Accessories that mimic feathered wings
  • Floating shawls

Likewise, cherubuns cannot possess sinful traits, or accessories that mimic them. This means that the following are not allowed on cherubun designs:

  • Fake horns or devil tails
  • Accessories that mimic bat wings
  • Features or accessories that can be mistaken for fangs, claws, or bodily spikes
  • Traits like Cloudy made to look like fire
  • Colored tongues or sclera
