Design Guide - Bun Ears

Succubuns' oversized lop ears are one of their most striking features, affording them excellent hearing and helping them to keep cool in Burrowgatory's warm climate.

Placement

A bun’s ears come from the upper sides of the head, rather than the top of the head. Their ears always start below the horns, but the area in which they attach to the head does not extend all the way down to the cheek.

Size and Length

In bun form, a succubun's ears are at least waist length, but aren't long enough to touch the floor. Their ears must be narrower than their head.

Long Ears

With the Long Ears trait, buns can have ears up to twice the standard length. Please note that these ears cannot get any wider, only longer.

Perky Ears

With the Perky Ears trait, succubuns can have ears that stand upright instead of the typical lop ears. These ears maintain the same placement on the upper sides of the head, below the horns, and should be the same length and width as standard ears. This trait can be applied to just one ear, but Perky Ears cannot bend or flop in the middle.

Shape

Succubun ears cannot have alterations that make it look like the ear itself has an unusual shape. The Angora Fur trait can give succubuns long fur of various textures on their ears, but it should clearly look like fur, rather than a shaped edge.

Nicks, scars, and piercings are allowed, but more extreme injuries that alter the overall shape of the ear are not.

Ear Styles

Succubun ears can be tied up in a variety of ways as a form of self expression, and can even be temporarily curled by sleeping in ear curlers. When designing a succubun with tied up ears, the ties holding them in place need to be clearly visible, and the ears need to obey gravity.

Below are all of the possible ways that bun ears can be styled.

The Tied Up style is the most common among buns. This style can also be used with the Long Ears and Perky Ears traits. It's not possible to have just a single ear in the Tied Up style, as it would not be tied to anything.

Even though succubun ears are soft, floppy, and flexible, they're still sensitive organs made of cartiledge, and tying them up isn't the same as tying up hair or a piece of fabric. If they're tied too tightly, it can cause pain or interfere with hearing. As such, all ties must be fairly loose—ears cannot be tied tightly enough to resemble a ponytail on the back of the head.

Tied up ears are still subject to the standard placement and length rules for ears. They cannot come from the top of the head, and asymmetrically tied ears must have their lengths taken into account.

Ears in the Pigtails style must have the tie visibly go around both the middle of the ear AND the base of the ear, creating the fold that holds the ears up. Pigtail ears cannot be flipped upsidedown from the example shown above, as doing so would turn the ear inside out.
