Design Guide - Bun Bodies

Succubuns have very round, stylized bodies. They’re intended to resemble simple mascot creatures such as Pikachu, Hamtaro, and Cinnamoroll, rather than realistic rabbits or humanoid/“anthro” characters.

Due to their simplicity, their anatomy is not very realistic, but there is a consistent logic to it. Most of their frame is hidden underneath a thick layer of fat and fur, but we can break down their shapes to make them easier to understand and draw.

Anatomy

As you can see above, a bun’s neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles are all hidden underneath the fat of the torso, similar to the body of a hamster. Their limbs are very short and stubby, giving them a limited range of movement compared to humans; for example, they cannot kneel, and they can only cross their arms at the wrists.

Buns’ bodies are very short and round, and cannot be elongated or anthropomorphic in appearance. They do not have a defined neck, shoulders, collarbone, or pectorals.

Their lower body gets wider at the bottom, with a slight indent between the legs. Buns do not have a separately defined waist, belly, or haunches.

Arms

Buns' arms are widest where they connect to the body, and taper downwards to a rounded point at the hooves. They do not get wider in the middle or at the ends.

Their limbs are short and stubby—too short to perfectly mimic all human arm poses. When fully extended and bent at an angle, a bun’s arms can have a gentle curve to indicate an elbow, but they cannot have a distinct forearm, elbow, and upper arm like a human.

Legs

Just like with their arms, a succubun’s legs are widest where they connect to the body, and taper downwards to a rounded point at the hooves. Contrary to what’s commonly seen in other rabbit-like characters, the visible part of a succubun’s leg is shorter than their arms, not longer.

The majority of a bun’s leg is indistinguishable from their torso; the part that’s visible underneath the torso is equivalent to just the foot bones of a human. Due to the way their fat and fur sits, their leg joints are not visible.

Buns do not walk on their whole leg; instead, they stand on just their hooves, with their tails acting as a counter balance. Their legs rest at an angle due to the way their joints are positioned; they don’t stand with their legs straight up and down like a human.

Hooves

A bun has cloven hooves on both their hands and their feet. These hooves are small and rounded, and do not possess any sort of thumbs, dew claws, or paw pads. It’s common to stylize them as a heart-shape, but please note that the split in the middle must extend down far enough to clearly communicate that it’s a cloven hoof, and not an uncloven hoof or paw.

Claws

If a succubun has the Claws trait, the hooves on their hands, feet, or both can be replaced with claws. Using this trait does not create paws or human-like hands

Tails

A bun’s tail must be shown in their masterlist art; it cannot be hidden by the pose, traits, or clothing. These tails are thin and whip-like, and the length of the tail when straightened should be no longer than the bun’s body from the neck to the legs.

The tip should be a rounded heart shape, proportionally sized to the rest of the anatomy.

If the tail has been broken in the past, it can have a crook or two that are bent less than 90 degrees. However, tails cannot bend sharply back on themselves, and cannot form shapes or hold objects.

The Angora Fur trait can be used to add fluffy fur to the tail. However, this fur cannot be used to make the tail appear thicker, or to mimic the tail of a lion, cat, horse, etc. The spaded tip of the tail does not have fur on it, and cannot be made fluffy with Angora Fur.

The Tailless trait can be used to remove the tail, in which case it does not need to be shown.
