[Gift] Collection Perfection
“Andiiiiii!”
Kaili had gotten lots of practice, over the years, at making herself heard over the noise of her girlfriend’s multitude of exercise machines.
As usual, the treadmill stopped the instant that Andi heard Kaili’s voice, and in a moment, she was in the living room. “What’s up?” she asked.
Kaili couldn’t help but take a moment to admire her girlfriend’s muscular body, before pointing through the open door to the box that had been deposited on their step. “My figures have arrived, but I can’t move the box…”
Andi nodded, striding forward, and picked the box up easily, hoisting it onto her shoulder. “Your domain?” she asked.
“Yes,” Kaili confirmed. She hadn’t reached a point where her collections had expanded to a size too great for her gaming room to contain.
Andi carried the box into the room, depositing it on the floor.
A smarter bun would have, perhaps, reached for some scissors or a knife to open the box.
Andi, of course, was not an intelligent bun. She fit her fingers under the cardboard, and ripped.
Kaili watched eagerly as her girlfriend ripped the box apart with her hands - and as she gently took out each boxed figure to gently set onto the couch.
While Andi disposed of the remainder of the box, Kaili eagerly unboxed the figurines, admiring the details on them. They were of the four newest characters added to the main video game she played for e-sports, and she had been haunting the site for weeks to get her hooves on them. She took special care in checking each one over, making sure there had been no damage to any of them and that none had any manufacturing defects. Once she was satisfied that all four were in good condition, she set them onto her desk and sprawled onto the couch to wait for Andi to return.
It took a few minutes for Andi to get back, but when she did, she leaned down to press a kiss to Kaili’s forehead. “Do you need them up on the shelf with the others?” she asked, used to the fact her girlfriend usually needed that additional help.
“Yeah.”
Andi, tall as she was, still needed the stepladder to get to the large shelf that the game’s figures went on. She’d hammered it up years ago, and it ran the entire perimeter of the room. The things that had graced it back then had since been moved to other shelves - including bookshelves - that had been bought and put up over the years. She suspected that she would need to try hiring someone to expand the closet at some point - and maybe making the wall between it and the room into a half-wall.
Of course, Andi’s favorite part of the room was the corner with the plushies she had won for Kaili over the years, and of course, the one special one she had made with Peter’s help. Most had the marine type that Kaili favored, though there were a few in other colors sprinkled into the mix.
Kaili watched her girlfriend smile at all of the plushies for a few moments, amused by it. After a moment, at least, Andi seemed to remember what she was supposed to be doing, and looked her way.
“Which ones go where?” she asked.
“The one with the long…” Kaili had to pause to yawn and force her eyes away from her ear and the swirling water at the bottom of it. “...glaive - er, the… the purple one, let’s just go with that, they go on the wall over the computer, since I’ve been maining them recently.” She knew better than to get stuck trying to teach Andi something if she could find a better way to do it.
Andi scooted the stepladder over before getting onto it, carefully moving figures around to get a good spot for the figure that was easily in sight of the computer. Once she had a spot cleared, she got down to pick the new figure up, and re-ascended the ladder to place it in its spot.
“Green one?” she asked, hefting the next one.
“This wall,” Kaili said, pointing up over her own head. She didn’t really like the character much, but they didn’t have any lore yet and one of her teammates had improved a lot since they’d started maining them, so she was giving them a shot.
“Got it.” Andi scooted the stepladder over, and just took the figure up with her. This wall didn’t have that many figures on it, so she didn’t need to move any around. Kaili usually decided quickly how she felt about characters, so they didn’t tend to remain on her ‘uncertain’ wall for very long. Once she finished, she was back down, picking up the third figure. “Blue one?”
“The last two are on that wall,” Kaili said, pointing to the one opposite the couch
Andi nodded, and set the figure back down before moving the stepladder. This one was for the characters Kaili didn’t play but otherwise liked, so it was relatively crowded. She had to do some moving to clear enough space to put the two up, and then another two trips up the stepladder to place the blue figure and the white figure on the shelf.
With all the figures placed now, she went to put the step-ladder away, returning to sprawl onto the couch with Kaili and cuddle her. “How long till more characters come out?” she asked.
“About four more months,” Kaili said, yawning and snuggling into her girlfriend, enjoying the feeling of her soft angora fur ears against her skin. “Hopefully they’ll get their figures out sooner than six months after releasing them, though, these took forever to get…”
“Fingers crossed,” Andi said. She knew her girlfriend liked to have the figures as quickly as possible from the character releases, after all, and that the delay on these ones had been frustrating.
Soon they fell asleep on the couch, surrounded by Kaili’s collections.
