Sweet Things

Of all the places that Breakfast could have taken him, it had to be the place that Klaus enjoyed the least. A festival in Burrowgatory, and something during the summer to top it off. Klaus on a good day didn’t do well with people. Pair that with a mountain of noise, constant brushing of fur on fur, and the sheer amount of color, he wanted to return quickly to bed. But, after arriving at his office, the pink bundle of energy wouldn’t leave until she had a date to the festival. It was likely she’d always been back and back again from the festival well before ever thinking to ask her reclusive friend, but that didn’t stop her from acting like this was the first time she’d ever arrived at the godforsaken place.

If he could help it, Klaus would enjoy his summertime at his desk, avoiding the outside world at all costs, but no such luck. So, departing his calm, dark, safe office, he arrived at the festival with… low expectations. The festival itself was rife with laughter, carnival music, the smell of good food across his nose, and just a little bit of sin. It was loud, like he was worried, but with Breakfast’s hand in his, dragging him along from stall to stall was starting to grate on his permanent scowl.

“Oh!” The pink bun hummed.“This is good! Try this!” Breakfast handed him a churro, and dripping from it was some kind of icing. Not only did it have a bite already taken out of it, it even had sprinkles, the disgusting thing.

Klaus passed a disparaging look to Breakfast. “B,” A nickname, and it was said with disdain.

She waved him on.

Klaus stared, taking a bite after her that he didn’t want to take. “Disgusting.” He said. Warm, sugary, and tugging at his rampant sweet tooth, he didn’t want to tell her he’d finish the whole thing if she let him. He wasn’t going to admit he liked it. Definitely not.

Breakfast knew better, likely, and only laughed at him.

Eventually, after coming across a free bench, his festival partner instructed him to wait while she ran to the restroom, leaving him with the churro. So, he sat. Klaus wasn’t the type to wander off, and instead took in the scenery for a moment. Screams, one of the few sounds he enjoyed, could be heard from the roller coaster nearby, and some kind of sickening looking boat ride turned completely upside down. It made him nauseated, and he glared at the churro in his hand. Not nauseated enough to let a perfectly delicious sugary confection go to waste though.

By the time he had nothing but a sugary napkin left, Breakfast returned.

“I know what’ll cheer you up,” Breakfast finally touted.

“Unlikely.” Klaus replied flatly.

Just like that, she presented to him a stuffed impup. Pink in color, and covered in pom poms that made it look like some kind of freakish cream puff.

It was so cute, Klaus may just pass out. His hands twitched before he reached out to take it, and the plush underneath was soft as a buns bottom. It had a bit of squish to it, with dark, round eyes that looked right into your heart.

“I hate it.”

“I thought you might.” Breakfast seemed satisfied, and Klaus was too, surprisingly.
