Rest and Restraints 4

Kaili knocked several times very loudly and obnoxiously; she was a bun who lacked both patience and manners while simultaneously possessing no shame, which made her quite a handful to deal with most times.

Dan answered the door, a bit annoyed, “Can I help you?”

“…Is this the place?” Kaili leaned in and whispered conspiratorially, as if she were conducting some sort of drug deal.

“Pardon?” Dan raised an eyebrow. “Place for what?”

“The best, comfiest sleeping place in all of Burrowgatory! The pillow pile!” Kaili declared. “How could you not know that?” She accused with a huff.

Dan’s eye twitched in annoyance. “Right… it’s over here.” Against his better judgment, he led Kaili further into his house, assuming that Shibani must have invited her over.

Shibani rubbed at his eyes sleepily as the two entered. “Oh, it’s you… what was your name again? Aqua… something?”

“Yes, it is I, Aquamarine Sapphire Tsunami Cetacea Kaili!” Kaili struck an anime pose with one hand covering her eye dramatically. “Remember my name, because it may be the last one you ever hear!”

“…Ah,” Dan suddenly realized that she had that… what was it called? Eighth-grader syndrome? One of those people who had grand delusions and believed they had superpowers and were a chosen one or something. “And why are you here?”

“She came here to nap with me,” Shibani smiled, seemingly unperturbed by this bun’s strange behavior.

“Yes,” Kaili pet the marine phloof on her shoulder. “Sparkle Wave Starlight Radiance and I wanted to experience this allegedly best sleeping spot in the world… we’ll be the judges of that!” The phloof on her shoulder nodded along happily.

“…Right.” Dan pinched the bridge of his nose, starting to regret his decision to let her in. “Have fun with that.” He left the two buns alone, doubting that the energetic one could even fall asleep in the first place.

“Come on over,” Shibani pat the pile next to him happily. “There’s plenty of room for both of you.”

Kaili jumped onto the pile next to Shibani. Despite how energetic she had been thus far, she was quick to run out of steam. She was still a sloth bun, after all, and all she wanted to do now was nap for maybe four hours or so. Leaving the house and interacting with new people was so draining… how did Andi do this everyday?

Without thinking twice, she curled up next to Shibani. He wasn’t as fluffy and comfortable as her girlfriend, but he would do for now until she went home to her later. Adi moved down from her shoulder and settled between both Kaili and Shibani.

Delighted, Shibani spent several minutes petting the cute imp before a yawn overtook him. He snuggled close to Kaili and closed his eyes. Adi, sensing that Shibani wanted to spend as much time with her as possible, moved her position to curl up on top of Shibani’s face. Shibani, despite not being able to breathe as well now, could not be happier about it.
