Ezra's Day-Off
I’m so bored …
Ezra lounges on top of their couch, a long and annoyed groan emitting from the back of their throat as they stare up at the ceiling. It wasn’t every day that they were shoo’d away from work, and it had been especially a long time since their last one as well, that they had no idea what to do with themself. Feet press against the plushness of the couch, digging the back of their heels into the armrest before finally letting out a defeated sigh. Sitting up, they grab their phone, unlock it and type in what to do during days off. They felt a little hopeless knowing that they were seriously using the internet to decide what to do for today – they could easily play games on their computer or phone, but they also didn’t feel like playing games either. How frustrating!
They move to put on their glasses, pausing their scrolling when they notice something on a page they were on. Humming, they click on the link, being led onto a local ice cream parlor’s website. The frozen treats were an arrangement of colors, as well as the varying heights and appearances. Glancing outside, they had realized how hot it had been when they had arrived at the shop … in fact, it had been so hot out that they hadn’t even worn their usually sweater vest and button up, instead wearing one of the older t-shirts that their caretaker had gifted them before they moved to Burrowgatory, as well as a pair of shorts and sandals. Gaze moves back to the phone as they stand up, looking at where the store was located before deciding they would try one of the treats.
You can do this!
The trek from their apartment to the ice cream parlor wasn’t that long, but the unbearable heat had them feeling like they were melting. Once inside, however, a cool breeze washed over them and Ezra instantly felt a bit better, even if it meant having to wait a little on ordering the parfait they had their eyes set on. Although, they were a bit nervous once they began to order.
“I - It’s the, um … It’s the parfait?”
Shit.
The cashier stares blankly at them, a slow crawl of confusion spreading on her face before frowning, “We have different types of parfaits. There’s cheesecake, some yogurt, some with fruits… we even have some that have granola in it.” She even directs their attention to the pictures, but all they can feel is a bit overwhelmed.
Ezra blinks before finally pointing at a rather tall looking parfait, one topped with strawberries, chocolate drizzle, and some bananas on the side of it. The cashier gives a single brow raise to them before shrugging and typing it into the machine, then turning to tell the people in the back about the order. The bun pays for the frozen treat before standing there, feeling a little lightheaded and flustered all of a sudden.
“Just sit down and wait, they’ll bring it out to you.” The lady says, waving her hand to the nearest seat.
“O - Oh, right.” Ezra moves quickly over to the farthest seat from the cashier, heart beating quick as they wait. Hands move to their satchel, taking out a book they were planning on reading while they tried the parfait. It doesn’t take long for the parfait to come out, the bun handling it obviously a bit proud of how much it looked like the picture. They nod their head at the other, watching as it’s placed down in front of them. Waiting until the other is gone, they scoop a piece of the treat out with a spoon, catching a strawberry and some of the chocolate with the ice cream, taking a bite out of it before shivering at the taste.
Oh, wow!
Amazed by the taste, they continue to take small scoops out of the parfait, even enjoying the way the banana tasted with the yogurt and chocolate. Soon enough, they remember that they had been planning on reading while enjoying this treat. They take a moment to consider, glancing from the book to the dessert before shrugging a little. Book open, they begin to read, all while eating the delectable, frozen treat.
They would definitely have to do this again sometime … perhaps even try a new flavor as well.
Ezra hasn't had a day off in ages, so when they're rushed out and told not to come back for the next day or so, they have no idea what to do with themself. Luckily for them, it's the summer. What's a better way to relax than to relax with a huge parfait and a good book to read?
