Warm Up Dance
Heels?
Taken off the moment she stepped into this place. Stashed away under some table somewhere. She'd find them at some point when she was ready to go.
Hors d'oeuvres?
Eaten five to seven of each type and currently getting dirty looks from the staff when she started moving towards the tables again.
Gwen really just wanted to go home already, however her boss had tossed a bunch of business cards for the shop at her and told her to pass them out. She had been leaving some on tables here and there, but she still had about a dozen tucked away in the bosom of her dress. (Because her boss didn't think to add pockets to this!???) The bun had decided she was going to pass out the rest of the cards in person. There was one problem though; Gwen was talkative at work or out in the world, but here? An utter clam. Maybe it was because she knew this wasn't her place?
For now she found an empty wall to lean against and was scrolling through her social media feed.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the ballroom, Dimitri was zigzagging through the crowds as he tried to run away from his duties. Working was certainly not something he was planning to do during the event! Luckily it had been easy to blend in with the employees, even managing to steal an ID from a poor sucker that was now unable to enter. He had found his chance to run away around the time the dance floor had filled in with people, the perfect chance to disappear without a trace.
The rhythm of the dancing bodies eventually led Dimitri towards the opposite side of the room, where the food tables were. There, he grabbed one glass of champagne to slowly drink it while he looked around. Now…He just had to find a dancing partner to begin his night. His eyes scanned all the bodies in view–Lots of good options. But his interest peaked when he caught sight of a purple haired woman that stood by one of the walls all by herself. She looked bored out of her mind as she scrolled through her phone, “Hmm..” He hummed to himself as he placed the empty champagne glass down to exchange it for another. Well, that seemed like a good start.
“Excuse me, miss–” Dimitri said as he approached with his usual bright and captivating smile, “I couldn’t help but notice your beauty from across the room. Please, let me offer you some champagne.” He held out the drink to her with a little bow, placing his other hand on his chest as he gave her a playful wink.
Doom scrolling just didn't hit the same in a public place like this. Not with so many distractions; the music, the dancing, the conversations, the guests! Even if this wasn't her kind of people, the buns were rather pretty. Plenty of eye candy for anybun's tastes.
One such princely piece walked right up to Gwen! Not someone she had been eyeing before but, hmmm....Blonds were pretty cute. Gwen reached out to accept the champagne glass. "Thank ya~ Charmin' fella, aren't you?" She reached up to stroke her braid, only to make a sour face when she remembered her hair was loose tonight. To hide her expression, she knocked the glass back and downed all of it about three gulps.
“Oho,” Dimitri blinked at the impressive rate in which she drank that champagne, his eyes wide and sparkly as he stared in awe, “Why I suppose im charming yes, but not as charming as a lady who knows how to drink~” He chuckled, straightening up so he could place a hand on his hip, “How come you are over here all by your lonesome self? Do you not fancy the food and dancing?”
Gwen couldn't help but roll her eyes at the very suggestion that she was charming. That wasn't even on a top ten list of what anyone who knew Gwen would call her. "This place isn't really my cup of tea, ya know?" She waved her hand holding the glass out towards the groups of buns making connections and dancing. To her, they were all so elegant and perfect (even if in reality they were just as awkward and reaching as she was). "What 'bout you? Why are you talkin' to a lonesome bun?"
“Well, I saw you standing here looking quite bored and I figured I could come ask you for a dance” He gave her a gentle smile as he extended a hand out to her in invitation, “Cup or tea or not, I say let us have fun since we are already here. Wouldn't you agree?” It also pained him to see a fair maiden unaccompanied in the party, so he figured he could at least relieve some of her boredom. He found her types quite fascinating too, something about the tough ones always seemed to catch his attention.
Gwen looked skeptically at the offered hand. Curse charming blond men. She met the hand with her own, the glass left for someone working to clean up on a table. Why she accepted his invite to dance, she'd never know. "Okay, but I gotta warn ya. I'm no good at ballpit or whatever dancin'. Never bothered to learn the fancy partner dance stuff."
Dimitri was pleased once his hand was taken and he didn’t hesitate to lead Gwen towards the dancing crowd of people. Honestly, he thought he would be completely rejected so he was rather surprised that she even accepted in the first place. He couldnt help but feel a dumb sense of pride at his charming persuasion which, once again, worked to capture another lady’s attention. After moving through the bodies on the dancefloor, he eventually found an empty spot for them. Dimitri turned to face her, giving her a reassuring smile before placing his free hand on her hip to bring her closer, “You never told me your name, miss,” He leaned in towards her ear to whisper against it, as the sound of the music was loud enough to cover any sort of conversation.
Was there a hint of a blush as warm breath touched her ear? Gwen would never tell and hopefully Dimitri wouldn't see. She leaned close to one the opposite side of his face, so he could hear her too. However she wasn't one to speak so seductively nor to whisper. "'M Gwen. And the name of mister prince charmin'?" She easily fell in place as the follower, hip pressing into the hand on it.
“Dimitri” He said smoothly at the question, “Now, just follow my lead. Side, back, side slowly..” And then he began to move, taking her along with him as he took a step to the side, and then back, then side again. Ballroom dancing didn’t have to be complicated or complex, as long as their bodies swayed to the sound of the music, it was enough. He didn’t want this to be a stressful experience either so he made sure to go slow for her. It's been a while since he danced classical as well, since Dimitri didn’t really go to these types of parties often, but his legs remembered a little bit of what he had been taught back in the day. The night was young anyways, he could probably find an experienced bun to teach him more later~ But for now, he’d enjoy teaching his current princess some basic steps.
There was a high likely good that Gwen was not going to remember Dimitri's name if they happened to meet again, or even by the end of the night. She just wasn't the best with names. Ah well. For now, she needed to focus on her foot work as Dimitri guided her around. It was probably a good thing that Gwen ditched her heels before she hit the dance floor; doing so saved Dimitri's feet from getting stepped on by something harder than a bare foot. Each time she misstepped and her feet made contact with shoes, she let out a small "shit" or "fuck" but no apologies.
By the end of the dance, Dimitri’s foot was slightly sore from all the stompings it had received. Even if Gwen had no shoes, getting stepped on more than ten times through their dance eventually did hurt. But, as the gentleman that he was, he kept his charming smile to hide the inner pain. It wasn’t the first time he danced with someone inexperienced so at the end of the day, he really didn’t mind. In fact, after a while, she eventually did get the hang of it and they were able to finish the dance session. The goal was to have fun and he certainly had it. It was always a joy to dance with different individuals–And his night was just starting! Once the music stopped, the musicians announced that there was going to be a slight break and everyone on the dance floor scattered, “Well, that was fun. You did excellent, miss Gwen!” He exclaimed as he slowly let go of her, “I thank you for the dance, please–Allow me to at least escort you to the drink table,” Dimitri gave her a slight bow as he motioned towards the table at the far corner of the ballroom, where most of the crowds had walked to.
Know what? Gwen had enjoyed the dance! With no complaints from Dimitri about her poor skills or stepping on his feet, and even compliments where they didn't belong, she felt on top of the world.
As the two stepped away from the dance floor, Gwen was giggly. It might have something to do with the champagne she downed before starting; helped loosen her up. "Yeah! Lets go have another drink!" After all, if one drink made her feel like she could talk to these fancy folks, surely more drinks would help! Gwen hooked her elbow with Dimitri's, ready to bulldoze their way over to the drink table when she recalled through her bubbly brain the business cards she was supposed to pass out. "Oh hey! Princey guy. Here," she reached into the front of her dress and pulled out a (sweaty, ew) business card. It was red with shiny silver spider web patterns on two opposite corners and the words "Spider Silk Dresses" also in sliver across the front. The backside had smaller text with the address of the business on it. "I'm sure ya got fancy clothes, or clothes that need fixin'. My boss is real good at makin' clothes."
Dimitri took the card and looked it over for a second before sliding it inside his pocket, "Thank you. I shall keep it in mind" he then turned towards the table where all the drinks were once they were there and grabbed two champagne glasses, handing one to Gwen. He gave her a smile and raised his glass infront of her, "Cheers, miss Gwen, for our wonderful dance."
Dimitri invites a bored looking Gwen to dance. He'll probably need to ice his feet in the morning!
Thank you Choco for taking a chance with rping with me~ <33
