Snowball Blitz
Rarely did the Burrowgatory freeze over, but when it did, every succubun found themselves loafing around outdoors in the warmest garments they could rouse up. For a place where most spent their days wantonly dressed or half-nude, it was surprising how many faux fur coats and thick wooly scarves could be seen throughout the Burrowgatory streets. Even the buns sheltered inside their favorite shops were bundled up tight.
River had decided to bundle up tightly that day, wrapped like a mummy in the warmest purple and black clothes he could dig out of his closet and laundry piles. Today was going to be a good day, planned with his friend Yuri and maybe even their friend Sergio if they were able to arrange anything for once in their lives.
River texted Yuri, asking for a good meetup location and deciding on a crossroads just outside of their burrows that would be fine and easily visible in the event the weather worsened enough to fog their eyesight. River pulled his beanie down on top of his head, cresting it on his heart-shape horns and breathed hot air into his gloved hands before stepping outside.
After a short jog, he arrived at the crossroads, and to his surprise, Yuri was wearing a fourth of the layers he was expecting.
“Hey, River!” Yuri chirped, rocking back and forth on his heels as if it would warm him up enough to quit the shiver in his legs. River glanced up and down at Yuri’s outfit, thin compared to the thick fabric of his jacket, and shivered internally at the thought of the stiff breeze surrounding them.
Yuri smiled “So, uh, are you going to keep standing around checking me out or are we going to get a move on? C’mon slowpoke!” He said as he turned to trot away towards the town square.
“Hey–!” River shouted as Yuri easily skipped ahead of him, “Are you even dressed for winter?!”
“Yeah, sure! Plus, how else will I show off my superstar bod I worked so hard for?” Yuri said through laughter.
The two friends had been intending to take a visit to The Rabbit Hole to warm up, but had now found themselves in a minor Blizzard amongst the tall stone columns of Burrowgatory. The wind and snow rushed fast by their long fuzzy ears, blowing pieces of hair out of place and clothes nearly asunder. For a place so deep underground, they couldn’t comprehend how such a strong wind even found its way down here, but here it was.
Snow began to pile at their feet, causing drifts to form as the wind skated up and over, leaving curling tendrons of snowflakes in its wake. River looked down at his chunky boots as he crunched through the snow, black on white. The white was stark compared to the dyed leather.
“I have a great idea,” River said, bending down to scoop up a lightly packed handful of snow. Yuri turned and watched curiously as River rolled the snow between his gloved hands, balling it up, and –PAFF!– tossed it at Yuri’s jacket.
Yuri looked down at the snow falling from his chest as if he's been shot, slowly cracking a grin, then giggling, then all out laughing! He bent over and grabbed a handful of the snow quickly balling it before River could run off, and tossed it right back at his attacker!
The snow impacted right on River’s face, and melted quickly against his reddened cheeks and fell down onto his coat. The war had begun. The two went back and forth, lobbing palm-sized snowballs at one another and laughing merrily as they went. Each would take turns running and zig-zagging across the open snow-trodden stone of the Burrowgatory, hiding behind pillars, light poles, just about anything they could to intensify the small battle.
“Hey, you guys are running off good bus–” The bun spoke from the front door of The Rabbit Hole, before getting smacked right in the face with a ball of snow. River recognized the bun to be Seiko, one of the servers at The Rabbit Hole. A pale, disturbed look glazed Seiko’s face as the snow slowly melted down.
Yuri gasped, “OH. MY. GOD. We are soooo sorry!” He trotted a few steps forward with his hands up to his mouth.
“No, no… it’s fine. It’s better than fine!” Seiko said as they brushed the snow off their face and clothes, bending down slowly to their pants.
Yuri smiled slightly and sighed, “Well I’m glad for one, because I thought we might’ve owed you a drink or-” Seiko’s snowball hit Yuri right between the eyes!
As more roarous laughter erupted in the Burrowgatory streets, all three of them joined in a wintery day snowball fight fit for a personal Snowball Tournament.
As they continued, even more Succubuns found the time to join, leaving behind the drab icy edge of the day for something much more fitting of the wintertime freeze. They spent the rest of the evening locked in harsh, icy battle. The winner would only be decided by who dropped last… and River would never let himself be last.
