[GIFT] Living in Sin
Fenris was devoted to his work, truly. The calling of the Church of Sulfur was something he never questioned, and he knew he did his work well. It’s not his fault that sometimes he lost count of his rosary beads when the sermons grew long; he was supposed to live sinfully, and his sin pulled at his mind often when he needed to work but was left to his own devices.
The church’s confessionals were made of a beautiful hardwood, but the cushions inside where clergy and petitioner sat were plush and velvet and soft, the bench behind his back with a nice little notch that was perfect to lay his head back. The bun doing confession had a voice like a sweet droning hum, and the incense was the reason why he’d already recanted the third prayer more than four times now, he’s sure of it. It tapers off into a sleepy little mumble as his eyes closed, dreams filled with kneeling at the altar but with cupcakes instead of votives decorating the cloth.
The warmth, the quiet, the intimate air of hushed undertones. That’s what made the confessional booth the perfect place to nap, Fenris had learned a long time ago.
By the time his shift is up, he’s only dislodged from his barely comprehensible dreams by the door to his confessional booth being opened, bleary eyes rubbed and opening to see Oleander giving a twitching little smile down at him. It widened when the priest saw that Fenris was stirring more, giving a small nod of his head.
“Your time is done, Fenris. I’ll take up the rest.”
Fenris slowly collects himself, adjusting his clothes with a stifled and cute yawn, dipping in a small bow before going to pass the priest by. Oleander leans forward to give a pleased little hum as he passes by.
“Thank you for all your hard work.”
