Only You and Me
Snuggled under two blankets, warmed by the heater in the corner of their room, Andre and Damien cuddled to the tune of their tv playing a holiday themed romcom.
Damien snickered loudly, hiding his giggles against his boyfriend’s shoulder. “How do they always make new trashy winter romcoms each year? The plots are the same for every movie! Oh no you’re a city bun that’s broke down in the burrows’ country and there a farmer bun just conveniently around to help you. Bam now you’re in love.” He shook his head, “Poor little cherubuns, watching this crap on their holiday.”
Andre smiled slightly, pressing his cheek to Damien’s hair, “Aw come on, it’s nice to have predictable movies. You can just stay warm and enjoy the happy endings, no need to get your heart strings all twisted during the holidays.” He knew for a fact Lapis, their band’s PR cherubun, was having a blast watching all the recommendations Andre gave him.
Damien paused, looking up at Andre, before he said, “I guess, I mean that’s what we’re doing right? It’s Cherubmas and yet here we are, watching C-List movies instead of going out.”
Andre raised an eyebrow, “Do you want to go out?”
Damien grimaced, “Oh Hell no, I’m not going out there. It’s cold as fuck.”
“I keep telling you wear more clothes.”
“Sluts don’t get cold.”
Andre threw his head back with a laugh, “Babe I think you just said yourself it’s too cold to go out.”
Damien reached up to pinch Andre’s arm, “Shut up, you know what I meant.”
Andre only laughed harder, eventually calming down enough to kiss Damien’s cheek. He looked at his boyfriend for a while, his expression softening, “I’m grateful I meet you.”
Damien froze, his mouth falling open as he tried to respond to his boyfriend beyond a few intelligible noises. He took a deep breath, suddenly moving to hide a red face against the crook of Andre’s neck. “What the fuck.”
Andre rubbed Damien’s back, smiling, “I mean it, even back before we were a couple, before the band, when I was just some street rat that couldn’t help visiting that pretty stripper.”
“Excuse you,” Damien muttered, “I was a hot stripper.”
“The hottest,” Andre agreed quickly, “And wasn’t he nice to me too, patching me up backstage if he thought I got into trouble.”
Damien grinned, trying to keep his boyfriend from seeing it, “Hey I couldn’t help it, you were like an impup that crawled in from the rain. I couldn’t just leave you by yourself.”
Andre nodded, “And that’s why I’m grateful, I would have been completely lost if it wasn’t for you.”
Damien scoffed lowly, before he bit his lip, hesitating before he groaned, “Ugh I’m grateful for you too, no one puts up with my shit like you do. You’re the bun for me, Andre, I guess I knew that even back then before we started dating.” He still remembered how Andre was his favorite customer, the one that was the kindest to him for no motive beyond being a good person.
Andre seemed surprised, his eyes crinkling around the edges as he hugged Damien close to him, “I love you, you don’t gotta say it back, but I love you so much.”
Damien jolted, his hands shaking slightly as he hugged back, “Fucker, of course I love you too.” He decided to ignore the watering of his eyes, they weren’t usually a mushy couple like this, but when they were, Damien felt like his entire chest was warm, Andre was the best thing that ever happened to him and he didn’t deserve him.
Andre pressed kisses to his hair, his tail wagging under the blankets. “You want to just spend the rest of Cherubmas at home? I know we have a party to go to later, but I really don’t want to be around anyone but you right now.”
Damien sniffled through a laugh, “Yeah, let’s just stay home. Let’s order in, get one of those stupid holiday cakes and wine. Let you kiss on me while we watch more of this damn happy ending movies.”
“Sounds perfect, just the kind of day I want.” Andre squeezed Damien close, holding him as gently as he could, “I’ll go ahead and tell everyone we won’t make it to the party.”
Andre and Damien might not have seen the type of buns to fall in love, but there was no greater bond than the one they had with each other. Maybe this holiday was intended for every bun, from cherubuns to succubuns, the kind of holiday that made everyone stop pretending they were too tough for the good times.
A day they just needed to spend with the ones they love and to show they how much gratitude they had for being in their lives.
