Trajan put a hand over Rook's carefully rubbing at the other's skin. He hadn't called this a date, he called it a 'business meeting'. Rook was confused by it as soon as they left the casino and went to a restaurant. He didn't mind it at all, but it was strange- unexpected perhaps. When he started working for Angora he would have never expected it to end up like this. Trajan seemed distracted by Rook's appearance while Rook's eyes wandered to the other side of the restaurant. The waiter there was walking around and preening himself, combing back his hair and smiling in the reflection of a plate. When they had their orders taken, that waiter had focused so much on Trajan, and basically ignored him. Trajan had to full out mention him just so that he was able to say his order. Being flirtatious with a customer was one thing, but completely ignoring another in order to do so? Ridiculous. Trajan seemed to notice the other getting a bit lost in thought, and lightly tapped the other's hand in order to get his attention. "Rook?"
Rook looked up, expression turning less sour as he looked towards Trajan. He couldn't help it, Trajan made him feel better just by existing, as embarrassing as that was. "Are you okay? You look fucking pissed." Trajan was genuinely concerned it seemed, it didn't sound right on him. "Yes, I am fine...thank you for helping me order earlier." Rook replied, hoping that was enough to express his anger towards the poor service without sounding too aggressive. Trajan smiled, leaning a bit closer towards the other male. "No problem, Rook. I'm sure once you get your meal you'll feel better. I didn't know you were such a simple guy when it came to food, least it makes it easy to find a place you'd enjoy." Rook had to admit that was true, a simple order of udon shouldn't be too difficult. He hadn't even asked for anything in it. Once he had food, maybe he'd calm down. He knew that some people found it hard to focus when Trajan was around, he definitely wasn't exempt from that, but the least the waiter could have done was respect him being there too. But it would be okay, certainly the folks here wouldn't mess up an order as simple as his.
As if on cue, the waiter showed up with a grin across his face, eyes first turning to Rook. "Oh, I'm sorry sir, but we don't have the ingredients for your order, well, we did, but we used the ingredients for some...high priority orders." The waiter put a hand on Trajan, and this time it was Trajan getting more than a bit pissed off. Mostly because he knew that excuse was bullshit. He had seen waiters play this game more than a few times, and he was far from an idiot. He got even more mad when he saw Rook look away, he looked like he was about to start going red with anger. Rook was the kind of bun that shouldn't be in situations that made him mad, he was serious, he took a lot of shit, and yet he stayed pretty calm through it all. For something to piss him off this bad, he must really be going through something mentally alongside just normal aggravation. Trajan wouldn't let this go on, absolutely the fuck not. He wanted to knock this waiter into next week, but he had promised Angora not to start a fight while going out with Rook.
Instead, he rose from his seat and walked over to Rook's side of the table, almost knocking the waiter over as he walked past him. "Well, that's unfortunate. If that's the case, me and my companion here will be leaving." Rook snapped his head over to stare at Trajan. "What? They're already making your food, we can't just-" Before Rook could argue any further, he felt himself being lifted from his chair as if he weighed nothing, being tossed over Trajan's shoulder. "Come on, we're going back to my house. I can make you something myself once we get back there." Rook knew better than to struggle, instead allowing a small frown to grace his face as he was carried out. He watched as the waiter's face fell, and Rook had to keep himself from grinning, even if he felt the desire to. Served the bastard right for ruining his meal just because he wanted to try to get into Trajan's pants.
Once they were out of the building, Rook had expected to be put back down. Instead, Trajan kept walking down the path, still carrying him. "So, you're actually going to make me food?" Rook asked, wanting some clarity on if that was just an excuse for them to leave or a genuine promise. "Of Course I am! Why? Don't trust a big man like me to know how to make some noodles?" He shook his head, not like Trajan could see that- maybe he could feel it somehow, the way his muscles moved or something strange like that. "No, it's not that I don't trust you to cook it's just..." He paused for a moment, wondering if he should really say what was on his mind. Well, this was as good a time as any, being alone with him on a walk back home.
"I don't know why you even cared that much. You didn't have to pick me up, say you're going to make me food, and take me away just because an attractive waiter wanted to pamper you." The taller man shrugged. "You weren't having a good time, and I could tell that waiter was trying to chase you off. I wasn't going to let that happen." Rook shook his head. "Well, you didn't have to. Trajan didn't accept that, grip on his leg getting a bit tighter as he spoke. "Listen, Rook. Everything else aside, not thinking about work, or what you do for me in that work, I care very deeply about you. I may be a fucking asshole, but I'm not going to mack on some stranger while we're having a date... and for full clarity, he was not as handsome as you are. And pretending that they didn't have ingredients for your meal just to try and make me feel special was stupid. If waiters are going to try and manipulate buns into thinking they're all charming and shit, they need better material." He grumbled, lightly rubbing at the other's leg as they walked. He thought that would be the end of the conversation, and it would have been... if he hadn't said one specific word.
"Thought you said it wasn't a date." Rook pointed out, which apparently was enough to make Trajan break a little, given the slight flustered noise that Trajan made. Finally Rook would get some more answers regarding this 'business meeting'. "Well! I lied!" That was blunt. Rook had expected to have to pry a bit more for that confession, especially since Trajan had been so insistent on not calling it a date before. "I told you it wasn't a date because... Well, It's not like I know how you feel about me. And it was technically a work meeting, seeing as both of us work together at the same place. Besides, you shouldn't feel romantic feelings towards me anyways, so calling it a date would be wrong." Both of them had an uncomfortable pause after that, the steps on concrete were the only sounds for a bit. Rook felt the need to talk again. He couldn't let the conversation end here, not when he had questions... and unresolved feelings. "Is it... bad that I do? Feel those romantic emotions towards you, I mean." Trajan's face went red. He wasn't usually like this, not the kind of man to go red at such a simple question. He was the kind of man to fuck his way through an entire neighborhood without his heart even picking up speed, and this kind man with a gentle voice was enough to make him a mess. Even in his flushed state, he got a response out, a real one too. "It is, I'm a bad person."
"Bad is relative, especially for us. Our sins are encouraged and considered right by the church, for someone with the cross on your tattoo, I would think you would know that." Rook laughed lightly, which then caused Trajan to respond. "Well, that's fair- but I'm self-centered!" Once again, Rook argued. "You're a pride bun, that's to be expected. You know what you want, if you were truly self-centered to the point of fault, you wouldn't have cared about how I felt back at the restaurant." Trajan scoffed. "I'm a criminal!" Rook laughed. "You say that like I'm not one too. I may not have been the type to punch my way out of trouble, but I've stolen plenty of Carats in my past." Trajan wasn't going to let the other win. He knew good and well that Rook was perfect, and while he strived for perfection in everything for him, including his romantic partners, he wasn't going to let Rook fall into this without fair warning. "I'm could hurt you! Hurt your heart like I have so many buns before you! I could up and disappear one day and you'd never know what happened to me!"
After that, he felt a soft kiss on his back, Rook straining to reach while still slung over Trajan's shoulder. "You being worried about it and telling me that you could proves to me that you wouldn't do it on purpose. You've done nothing but make me feel like I'm precious and worth caring about. I know you wouldn't disappear without me, not if you had the option to bring me with you." Trajan felt as if he was about to fucking cry. Rook was right about all of it and it almost pissed him off. He placed him down in front of him, finally getting a look at his eyes again.
"Trajan? We're... not outside your house yet." Rook noted, before looking up at Trajan's face, tears starting to drip from his eyes and his face red. "Oh, I'm... so sorry, Trajan was that too much?" Rook was concerned, worried that he said something too extreme. "I'm fine. I just need to kiss my boyfriend. Now." He huffed, before pulling the other towards him and pressing their lips together roughly. Rook's eyes went wide when they collided, going lidded as he felt the other's tongue enter his mouth. He hummed lightly, putting his arms over Trajan's shoulders and kissing him back. Boyfriend. Rook dreamt about being called that before, but hearing that word, hearing it from Trajan... it felt perfect.
Trajan was not a perfect person, and neither was Rook. And yet, maybe they could have some perfect moments together.
