[PROMPT] Blood Drive
Tsubaki had always been terrified of people. Just being in crowded places made his skin itch and tingle. However he would put aside his fears if it meant helping those in need. With the lifestyle he lived, Tsubaki had basic medical knowledge. With a little extra help from those on hand, Tsubaki had quickly gotten the hang of the process.
So it wasn't surprising for Swain to see his usually shy and timid Tsubaki completely locked in. Surgical mask covering his face, hair and ears tied up to be out of the way, gloves up to his elbows. There was something about it that got his heart racing more than usual. The utter calmness radiating off of Tsubaki was attractive. It almost made him forget about his fear of needles until the tourniquet was placed around the bulk of his bicep. The elastic was tight, slightly uncomfortable as it squeezed his muscle.
“You'll be fine, love.” Tsubaki spoke so sweetly, looking at Swain with a soft gaze. Swain hadn't even realized he sat up until he felt a gentle nudge to lean back into the recliner.
“I know...” He grumbled in response as he let Tsubaki guide him back down. Nervous eyes watching as the envy bun prepped the needed supplies beside him. Swain stiffened as he felt an alcohol patch swab over the inside of his elbow.
“Deep breathes, Swain.” Tsubaki cooed as he grabbed a sterile needle and pierced through the dark skin of Swain's arm. Gentle fingers hold it steady with one hand while the other taped it down. Swain could feel sweat bead at his forehead while he was watching the process go down. His normal tough facade feigned the moment he felt the needle slide into his vein.
“You're doing fine, just keep breathing.” Tsubaki's voice broke through the panic that was building in his chest. Swain exhaled, releasing a shaky breath he didn't even realize he was holding in. “What do you plan on doing when you get home?”
Swain knew Tsubaki was asking just to distract him and he was thankful for that. “I-I dunno... Maybe I'll cuddle with Darby and Peppercorn...” He mumbled, as he tried to keep his mind off the process. He was looking forward to being home, snuggled by their imps on the couch. That would make everything better.
“That sounds good. A nice cozy evening.” Tsubaki continued the conversation, as he started to fill the testing vials. “Squeeze your hand a few times for me, love, and keep telling me your plans.”
Swain complied, squeezing his hand once, twice, thrice, before his gaze shifted down and he saw his life essenced swirling down the long thin tube. He swallowed. Feeling pathetic that someone like him would be scared of this whole process. Before he could panic, or wallow in his self doubt, Swain shook the thoughts out of his mind. Gaze shifting to Tsubaki’s face.
“I was thinkin’ of grabbin’ yer favourite take out food. Yer gonna be sore to all hell when yer home…” Swain drawled out, the chatting, mixed with the repetitive motion of opening and closing his fist, helped calm him down. The look Tsubaki gave made him soften more, knowing that under the surgical mask his lover was smiling at him.
“Aww, you’re such a dork!” Swain gave a bashful grunt at being called a dork, if it weren’t for the fact he was donating blood, his cheeks may have flushed. He looked away as Tsubaki changed the vials out for bags, labeling them accordingly as he put them away for later testing. “Sooo, you’re getting from that burger place?” Tsubaki hummed, monitoring the flow. Eyes occasionally darting back at Swain. “The one with those really good loaded fries~!”
Swain nodded, keeping his eyes trained on Tsubaki so as to not watch his blood fill the bag sitting beside him. He thought it was cute, seeing Tsubaki get all sing-songy over some fast food he liked. “Y-yeah, thought it would be a good treat fer ya, Sugar… After all yer doin’ all this fer free and what not.”
“I still think their tofudogs are better than the burger though.” Swain joked weakly. He was starting to feel the lightheadedness that came with donating blood. He tried not to think about it, instead keeping his focus on his partner, the way his eyes creased slightly in excitement for their dinner tonight.
The next ten minutes were spent with quiet chatter. Topics ranged from dinner, their imps, and what time Tsubaki would eventually be needing a ride home. It was comfortable, Swain thought, despite the fact he was having to face his mild fear of needles and the lightheadedness that came with it. Thankfully by the time it was over, Tsubaki helped him up and to the recovery room. Deciding that after packing away the blood bag and test vials that he would be taking a break to join his partner. Swain spent the next few minutes chewing on provided sweets and sipping on juice, head leaded into Tsubaki’s shoulder.
