The Lovely Nun and Priest
Nestled in a far corner of the church’s hall, tucked away from the crowds, Blush did not often find himself in Satin’s prayer room. A room that was nearly filled to the brim with all of the nun’s curiosities of fortune-telling and decorated everywhere with her heart motifs.
Blush admitted he didn’t quite understand Satin’s fascinations with love. The priest never used to give much thought to the feeling beyond being in stray passing and that was only because he wouldn’t humor affection. It was only after meeting his lover, Patron, that he started to think about caring for his other half and to feel a love he had never thought he wanted.
But even then, he never sought out advice for his love life from Satin.
“As such as I appreciate random invitations, I’m a little lost what you could want from me?” Blush questioned, moving to make himself more comfortable in his chair, “I’m not much for a matchmaker.”
Satin shook her head, her voice soft, “It’s not for matchmaking, not for you.” She gave him a knowing look, both at once happy and wistful, “I know you found your true love.”
Blush laughed, shaking his head with a firm motion, “True love sounds a bit pre-decided, doesn’t it? I like to think Patron and I are figuring out things as we go.” He paused, quickly adding to soften any offense, “Oh but that’s just my thoughts of the matter. I’m sure there’s more to it than my opinions.”
Satin only smiled politely, if she was upset by his words, she did not show it, “It’s okay, Blush, love is fairly new to you, isn’t it?”
“New?” Blush muttered as he pulled at a strand of his hair, “Well sure, I never dated anyone before Patron. I didn’t want to, ah you should see how much of my parish isn’t happy about my settling down.”
Satin frowned, she had heard a rumor or two of the restlessness of Blush’s flock but she hadn’t imagined they would be truly upset, “Don’t listen to them, you found your version of love and they can’t be angry at you for that. You just need to continue to love your partner as you’re meant to.”
Blush scoffed playfully, being kind in his reply, “You make that sound simple.”
“It’s not simple, but!” Satin clapped her hands together, “I know the perfect thing to calm your mind, it’s why I invited you here.”
Blush raised an eyebrow, “So this really wasn’t just a social call?” Not that he expected any less, he didn’t think the two of them were close enough for unplanned friendly visits.
“Not really,” Satin continued, unaware of where his thoughts led, “When I heard about your relationship, I wanted to pray with you to the demons. You must want your love to be everlasting.”
Blush hesitated, “I didn’t give it much thought, my prayers are usually for the demons that champion our vices or to the caretakers. I doubt my congregation would appreciate anything else.”
Satin reached over to pat his arm that rested against the table, “No silly, not a prayer for them. A pray for us in this room, I know you don’t like to make a great show of your affections to them.”
“It’s not exactly that, they just wouldn’t take it very well.” Blush dreaded the eyes on Patron when his lover visited.
“Still, let’s not think of them right now. Here give me your hands, I’ll guide you through a prayer. “ She laid her hands on the table, palm side up and waited.
Blush sighed quietly and set his hands on top of hers, “Of course Satin, I am honored to share your prayer.”
Satin closed her eyes, encouraging Blush to do the same. She took a deep breath, “Gracious demons of love, from your affections we were made and to your affections we remain. May your love let us forever kindle love towards each other, may that joy and warmth led us to the arms of those that would forever protect and love us. Give us your strength to let love endure and the knowledge that it may not break.”
It took a few seconds, before Blush realized she wanted him to continue the prayer. “Gracious demons of love, may I let love in, may my heart be clear and open to the one I love. May I trust in your judgement and in the powers that be within your control.”
They both bowed their head, hands clasped tightly, before relaxing.
Blush waited a moment before he spoke, “I suppose that did make me feel better.” He would never stop loving Patron, but sometimes the opposition from his parish got to him. “I worry I don’t live up to my lustful vice in the eyes of my flock.”
Satin gave his hands a reassuring squeeze, her expression kind, “How you experience your vice is your own, you shouldn’t let others decide that for you.”
“Is that so?” Blush knew she was right, there was no reason for him to worry when he had always done his best as a priest. “Thank you, Satin.” He looked around the room, before he smiled, “Well since we said our prayers, shall we call it here? Unless you had more need of me?”
Satin quickly shook her head, “Oh no, that was all I wanted Blush, I thought you would like it. Praying always sets my mind at ease.”
“I think it has done so for me too.” He stood up, “I’ll also send a prayer or two for your love life, Satin, you certainly deserve to find the one you’re waiting for.”
“The demons will see to it one day, I’m certain of it.” She waved Blush away, encouraging him to get back to his own duties as a priest.
Blush left her room with a lightness in his chest, he wasn’t ashamed to be in love and monogamous but it helped to have others that understood him. Satin truly was one of a kind.
He hoped she found who she was searching for.
