Being Prepared
“Please! You guys have to come with me to the Church!” Fatima exclaimed, standing in the middle of the room as she glanced between Ilar and Mimic, tears falling from her eyes. She sniffled and wiped them away, only to be replaced with more tears.
“I don’t… want to be the only one who didn’t go…”
Mimic frowned deeply, looking between Fatima and Ilar, making her way over and hugging Fatima close, gently rubbing her back.
“You’re not gonna be the only one who didn’t go, Fatima. I was thinking of going too but…”
“I told her it’s not the best idea with the active advisory and the rumors about whatever the hell is out there kidnapping and killing people. Besides, I’m not as devoted to the Church as you two are.” Ilar says, crossing his arms and sighing heavily.
The room was silent save for Fatima’s sobs that seemed to have gotten a bit louder with Ilar’s confession.
“I’ll tell you what, we can go together.” Mimic said, gently holding Fatima’s cheeks and wiping her tears away.
“We’ll bring things from home to protect ourselves then head directly to the church with no stops. How’s that sound?” She asked, tilting her head at Fatima and smiling softly.
Fatima sniffled and stared into her friend’s eyes.
“I- o-okay. As long as Ilar’s okay with it.” She says, glancing at the succubun standing a few feet away from them, rubbing his temple.
“No. No, I’m not okay with it but I can’t stop you.” He says, looking between the two before heading over to one of the drawers and taking out what looked to be two daggers.
“
Take these with you. Don’t lose them.” He said, handing the daggers to the girls, gently grabbing Mimic’s face and placing his forehead against hers.
“You remember how to use them right? Please tell me you remember how to use them.”
Mimic nodded, gently rubbing her nose against his.
“Of course I do. You taught me how. I’m not gonna forget any time soon, silly.” She said, smiling softly.
Fatima blinked and stared at the daggers, pulling them out of the sheath.
“Don’t you just… stab the person? Why does she need to learn how to use them?” She asked, tilting her head as she stared at Ilar.
Ilar chuckled.
“Yeah but, there’s a technique to it. Hard to explain really. People can be easily overpowered in a struggle so you need to learn how to incapacitate the person before they get the chance, before going in for the kill.” He says, smirking.
Returning his attention to Mimic for a moment, he kisses her deeply and gently rubs her cheek with his thumb.
“Take the pepper spray with you and anything else you think you’re going to need. I want you to be well prepared and safe.”
Mimic nodded and kissed him back, making her way over to Fatima and gently taking her hand, leading her towards the back of the house.
Entering the room, Fatima looked around. This room looked… about the same honestly.
At least she thought it did because there were just the same amount of plushies as there were the first time she had seen this room.
A baseball bat placed in the corner, some books on a nearby shelf, a crate under one of the shelves.
“Here, take this.” Mimic said, handing Fatima a somewhat heavy purse.
“Hells Mimic, what’s in this? It’s kind of heavy.” Fatima asks, taking a peek inside of it and looking at everything that was placed inside of it.
“Smoke bombs, pepper spray, and a flashlight. Put this in your shoes.” Mimic says, handing Fatima what looked to be a knife.
“And put this around your waist then slip the dagger inside. It goes under your top.”
“Wait, wait hold on! Don’t you think this is a bit… much?” Fatima asked, watching Mimic closely.
“Perhaps it would be best if we just took the pepper spray and the dagger? I am sure the pepper spray can blind anyone without the use of smoke bombs and a flashlight. Especially since the crystals help with lighting since they rarely go out?” Fatima suggested, laughing nervously.
Mimic blinked a few times, staring at Fatima for a few minutes before sighing softly.
“You’re right. Just put them on the shelf behind you.” Mimic says, rubbing the back of her head, checking to make sure she had everything she needed, taking Fatima’s hand and heading back towards the front of the house.
Ilar was leaning against the wall with his arm crossed, his ears slightly twitching when he heard footsteps.
“You two got everything you need?” He asked, walking over to them.
Mimic and Fatima nodded.
“Good, take my motorcycle. It’s faster than walking.” He said, handing Mimic the keys.
“Don’t forget your cell phone. Make sure you call me as soon as you reach the church.” He added, handing Mimic a pink and purple cell phone.
Mimic nodded, taking the keys and her phone, pulling Ilar down to kiss him deeply.
“Don’t worry, I will. We’ll be back soon, I promise.” She told him.
“Ready to go, Fatima?” She asked, making her way towards the door.
“Yes. Thank you so much. I really appreciate this, Ilar. Don’t worry, we’ll be sure to protect each other.” Fatima says, quickly hugging him and kissing his cheek before following Mimic out of the house, closing the door behind her.
After hearing about Oleander's death, Fatima decided that it would best to head to the Church of Sulfur to mourn his passing with the rest of the congregation.
However, she didn't want to go alone.
