Mochi Making Mayhem

Ginger looked at Dan, Dan looked at Ginger, Both were standing there among the aftermath of chaos that was mochi pounding "Look....I'm not mad but how the hell did this happen?" they asked after giving them verbal instructions. It took Ginger a moment to answer the other "Ok so i was thinking about what i should have for lunch and i got distracted so yeahhh" Dan took a deep breath before putting their lil paws together "Ok so...Lets not think about lunch and instead think about how to pound the mochi properly" Ok sounds easy right? You'd think so but for some reason, it went badly a second time. This time the hammer went flying and almost went out the window as he caught it real quick, falling down flat on his face and just laying there for a moment.

Ginger stared at them before he stood up and took another calming deep breath "Did you think about lunch again?" He asked calmly now that he focused himself on just getting the job done but the other shook their head with a smile "Nooo, not this time!" oh good? is that good? Ok so what this time? Dan waited for the answer and had to address her again to make her answer "Oh i was thinking about dinner" He put his lil paws on her cheeks and squished them and tried not to be forceful or hard about it "Listen very carefully Ginger, Do Not THINK about anything but pounding mochi properly, ok? I wanna return to my peace and quiet" He regretted giving lessons to them but the sooner they finish the better.

Dan handed over the mochi hammer again but made sure she was thinking of doing a good job before letting it be handed off. Now the hammer was raised high and with a good whack they were pounding mochi like an actual pro when they put their mind to it. The mochi was getting nice and shiny, after a while Dan stopped them and checked on the mochi with a keen eye, he won't cut back on quality on his store's wares but he's not going to sell this, he will let the other take it home to eat.

But they can't eat it just yet as they gotta make the filling, it doesn't take as long as making the mochi though so they had time to fiddle with it before wrapping mochi in it as they were now surrounded by a variety of flavors from red bean to chocolate Dan told them to- he snapped his fingers at the pink bunny to get them to pay attention "Hey hey! we're almost done then you can go off and get lunch" She nodded trying not to look off and think of something else again as they looked at the different powders.

"Now all of these- Don't eat that, now we just have to grab our desired flavor and mix it into this paste here" they had stopped Ginger from trying to sample the powders, they might have done this with shibani too at one point but he'll never tell if that gossip/rumor is true as Dan pointed each flavor out for them "Alright just dump the entire contents of the powder you want, don't mix them i promise they will not taste good that way" Ginger dumped two in anyway and he just let it happen, they're the ones who are gonna eat it so he's fine with this. With the powders now in the mochi filling they showed them that they had to dip a rubber spatula in water and just mix it all together!

Ginger did her best without eating the filling too "Yeah that's mixed enough, now we use this potato starch and with this mochi you helped make" they dropped a piece down onto the starch and told them to cover it with more starch before diving into thirds with the amount they had. Ginger had to concentrate again, they can't eat these right away! "Now put a small round of filling into the mochi and cover it, pinching and molding the folds into it's round shape" Dan was really good at this but then again this was his bunny lifes work! Three little mochi's were now sitting pretty in a to go box.

Dan did the wrapping of it and with the lessons they paid for this he basically made a small profit and he got free labor out of it too despite the hang ups they did "Ok thanks for taking up my mochi lessons do not come back for more" once was enough for him he'd rather have them as a customer which they agreed saying it was better to just eat them right away then make them but it was fun to learn it either way! Not a carat wasted in crafting them. Ginger went off to enjoy the mochi's with a special someone back home, but for now that ends the tale of Dan The Mochi Master enduring a very near disasterous lesson on making his signature mochi's.
