May Flowers

It was springtime in Burrowgatory and the flowers were in full bloom, and there were every kind you could imagine. Nixie’s favorite has always been the sunflowers. They heard that above ground, they actually reach toward the sun, but they aren’t sure if that’s how it works down here. Nixie loved to walk through the flowers and smell all the fragrances. Their favorite spot to go to see and smell this was the park, with it’s large area for all the different types of flowers to grow.

Nixie left the house, heading toward the park. They were walking along the sidewalk, as they don’t enjoy driving. The walk wasn’t far to the park anyway, so they were up for a little exercise. Exercise helped them keep their body shape anyway. Walking along, all they could smell was the exhaust from cars. They couldn’t wait until they reached their destination so they could get that smell out of their nose.

Around the corner, they could start to smell a sweet fragrance. Getting closer to the park, the smell started to change. All the noxious fumes from the cars fading, while the smell of flowers started to fill their nose. The colors of the flowers turn the usually green park into a multitude of beautiful rainbows.

All around, buns were picking flowers. Some for bouquets, others for crowns, others still to wear behind their ears. It was a rather cute display. Nixie walked around, smelling the different flowers. Finally, they came up to the sunflowers. While the fragrance was still there, the sunflowers didn’t put of as strong of a fragrance as the rest of the flowers. “They are by far the prettiest though” Nixie though to themselves.

Most of the sunflowers loomed much higher than the multitude of buns standing around them. Even the dolls paled in comparison to some of the sunflowers. However, there were several handfuls of sunflowers that remained shorter, with strong, flexible stems on them. All the sunflowers seemed to try and face each other.

Nixie picked several smaller ones to make a crown. So many other buns were doing it, that it seemed like a great idea to them. After grabbing a nice handful of sunflowers, Nixie sat down on the lush, green grass. It itched a little around their legs but was nice and cool, as was the ground below them. They sat there and gathered all their flowers up in their lap.

They lined three flowers up beside each other and started to braid them all together. After a few braids, they would add another flower, now acting as though two two stems were one. After doing this a few times, they realized they ran out of flowers. Nixie got up and walked over to the field again. Finding several more flowers that fit the bill, they walked back to the spot where they were sitting. Thankfully, the flowers braided so far had stayed together.  Nixie sat down and started the braiding again.

After several more braids, the crown was finished. Made in the fashion of a diadem. Nixie put the crown on their head, and smiled. It had to have looked good, because it was on Nixie after all. Nixie walked over to the pond in the middle of the park and looked at their reflection in the water. Yeah, it looked cute, very cute in fact.

Nixie felt the light weight on their head, and adjusted the crown slightly. They then took off back to their house, sunflower crown on the head, full of confidence. They strutted down the sidewalk, full of confidence, coming closer to their house as they walked. Soon, they reached their front door, opening it up and walking in. They had to see themselves in front of a true mirror. As they walked into their bathroom where there was a full, doll sized mirror was. They couldn’t look any better if they had tried, they thought.
