[Gift] Dinner by Candlelight
Red was walking up the large wrap around porch to Dixie's home. It was late into the night but this wasn't the first time he'd come so late, he'd sneak through her windows if he needed, but lately Dixie had been leaving one window unlocked for him to enter through. He heard an owl hoot in the distance as he walked up to his window, to his surprise the window was already open a bit and he could smell the scent of flame from inside. Putting his hands against the glass he lifted it enough that he could climb through, turning and closing the window back fully. Picking up his hat that had fallen when he climbed in. As he spun back around the entrance hall was dark, only illuminated by the candles sitting in holders on the small tables, from the dim light he saw that the parlor was also lit up, so that's where he headed.
"Dixie?"
He called out with that gruff voice of his. What did she do now? What was this mess of wax and flame? The parlor looked about the same, only there were even more candles lit up, some even sat on the floor. He had started to notice that they were leading him somewhere. The candles led him through the parlor and then into the kitchen. Red could still smell the scent of something sweet that had been baked earlier, and deep inside his head he wished it was all for him. There was the slight smell of blueberry there, which made his mouth water. The kitchen was still nicely, pristine and clean. Just like Dixie always had it. Now where in the world was she!?!
He was lead through the kitchen, running his hand over the counter tops as he walked out into the hallway. The candles went down the length of the hall and he followed them down to the end where there was a door slightly open. He opened it to walking in the living room where the coffee table was lit up with candles, sitting in the middle was a plate covered by a silver lid, and Dixie was there sitting into the corner of the soft couch. When hearing the door squeak open she opened her eyes to see him, and she smiled.
"There you are!"
She exclaimed happily, sitting up and moving to sit on the edge of the couch. She patted the open spot on the couch next to her.
"I feel like I've been waiting for you, for forever, so you better sit and make it up to me."
"What is all this for?"
He asked as he slowly walked over to her and took the spot next to her.
"A little treat for the holidays!"
She smiled up at him.
He sighed from behind his bandana and then slowly pulled it down to hang it around his neck. He then pulled his hat off and set it on the arm to the couch.
"You did this for me?"
He asked again, glancing over at her now. She nodded her hand back at him.
"I did... and you better enjoy it!"
She pointed at him accusingly. The she reached out to the table grabbing the two wine glasses and pouring wine into them. Blueberry wine her specialty. She then sat back and handed him the extra glass which she had poured more than enough for him. He took it and brought it up to his mouth, taking a good taste of it. It was sweet and warm and just the one taste he found himself starting to relax. The soft candle light didn't help, he found it relaxing as much as it was dangerous. So many open flames, but he trusted Dixie to know what she was doing.
"I'm already enjoying it."
He answered finally.
"Good."
Dixie huffed, taking a sip of her own wine and once she set it down she leaned to the covered plate. Red's attention had been completely drawn to it now as she slowly lifted it up and that sweet smell filled his senses. Blueberry bread, tarts, cobbler... It wasn't just a single thing she had made, she had made a bunch of little sweets for them.
"Pick your poison."
She grinned at him. He couldn't help the soft smile that rose to his lips as he leaned forward and took a slice of the bread. Lifting it to his mouth and taking a bite. He hummed softly, leaning back into the couch. Crumbs fell from his mouth as he took another bite.
"Amazing... As always."
He complimented with his mouth full and she smiled brightly. She took a tart herself and neatly took a bite of it, sitting back as he did.
"I'm glad you think so."
She spoke after she had swallowed her food
