Mediums used:

  • basic air dry clay
  • superglue
  • Acrylic medium paint
  • Barry M matte top coat nail polish
  • 1mm gauge aluminum armature wire (attempted)

For the Toy craft challenge I thought it may be fun trying my hand at using air dry clay which I didn't have much experience with.

I decided to attempt to make  Peach's (MYO-6145) bun form as well as his doll form as a clay bjd which proved to be a big mistake to attempt it as given my lack of experience with the medium, the only part that turned out remotely ok was a arm I managed to get armature wire through for posing.

the construction of the bun form went relatively well considering I don't have mnay clay sculpting tools at home, however though several parts ended up detaching as the clay dried which necessitated the use of superglue to put the pieces back in place. due to this issue some details had to be left out of the final build.

During painting the Clay itself didnt take to well to acrylic paint, especially during the initial base coat as simply touching it in a dry area was enough for it to flake off so I had to be careful when painting additional layers on top. Another issue I encountered was my white paint ran out so I had to make do with what little I had and as a result the bun isnt 100% accurate haha.

Ironically though, Nail Polish top coat makes for a Ideal sealant substitute when using acrylic paint, it also dried realatively quickly so I do reccomend using it, the properties of the nail polish are visible in the finish as well (in this particular case it's a matte finish).
