Sweet Summer Fun
If prompted to answer, Sugar would say he preferred baking to grilling without question. There was something more thrilling about decorating cakes and pastries; compared to grilling tofu dogs and other such things like vegetables.
However, when his boyfriend and his employees all begged them to enjoy a last bit of summer fun with a barbecue, he was too weak to disagree. It didn’t help that Creme was the prettiest man he knew.
“No matter how many times you look, it’s still not done,” Sugar snarked, playfully slapping away the tong Creme was holding, “Unless they grow legs, your tofu dogs aren’t doing anywhere.”
Creme shrugged, giving his boyfriend an innocent look as he fluttered his eyelashes, “What? I wasn’t doing anything, don’t be so dramatic.”
Sugar raised an eyebrow, trying not to smirk, “You always been a trouble maker? Or is that special for me?”
Creme leaned closer, “Want to find out?”
“I-”
There was an annoyed groan behind them. “Alright lovebirds, me and Spice don’t want to listen to you all day.”
They both turned to look at Tart, the strawberry-themed bun had his arms crossed. “Seriously we get it, you’re in love and it’s nauseating.”
Sugar glared, fixing the other bun with a hard stare, “If you don’t want to see it, then look somewhere else.”
Tart snorted, “Oh yeah because there’s so many other people here right? I thought this was for us to enjoy summer, not watch whatever softcore porn that’s going to happen in front of us.”
Sugar reddened, “Shut the hell up.”
Creme nodded, “Yeah, to be softcore, we’d have to get way dirtier than that.”
“Not helping, Creme.”
Creme shrugged as he went back to looking at the grill. He couldn’t be bothered with their conversation when he was so impatiently waiting for his tofu dog. This was the first time he was going to eat all day.
Tart rolled his eyes, “Come on, is the food at least done? That way we can at least shove food in our faces instead of listening to whatever tragedy this is.”
Sugar scoffed, “Both you and Creme are too impatient. Look Spice hasn’t said anything yet.”
Tart gave him a look. “Yeah because she has the mental processing skills of a walnut. Look at her, she’s just staring up at the sky.”
Spice sweetly and politely raised her hand up to flip Tart off as she continued enjoying her day off,
Tart only snickered lowly, “Besides I doubt anything would ever upset her. She’s not the type.”
Sugar shooed Tart away with a gesture of his hand, “Seriously get out of here and go sit with Spice, I’ll call you when the food’s done.”
Tart decided to listen, after making his own rude gesture to Sugar.
“I swear,” Sugar muttered, “If I wasn’t his boss, he would have been fired already. He still might.”
Creme laughed, nudging his boyfriend, “You don’t mean that, you love them.”
“I do not.”
“You love them and they’re your best friends.”
“I will drop all of these tofu dogs on the ground,” Sugar challenged.”
“And ruin your hard work,” Creme teased, before he looked at the grill again. “Come on, that one’s done right?”
Sugar paused, rolling the tofu dog over with his spatula. “Hmm yeah, it’s done. Go on, you can get that one.”
“Kiss ass,” Tart singsonged behind them.
“Shut the fuck up,” Sugar barked out, shaking his head as Creme got his tofu dog. “What am I going to do with that damn idiot?”
Creme wasn’t paying attention as he got his tofu dog on a bun, blowing on it to cool it down. He was pretty hungry at this point.
Although looking at his boyfriend, Creme had a funny idea that was sure to embarrass and irritate his boyfriend.
“Sugar?”
“Huh?”
Sugar turned to look, just in time for Creme to make eye contact as he slowly hit down on the tofu dog.
There was a moment of silence, before Sugar turned red. “What the hell are you doing?!” It was hard to tell if he was flush from being embarrassed or angry.
Creme smirked, “Huh, I’m just eating, what are you doing?” He took another bite, making sure he was still making eye contact too.
Sugar scoffed, “That is not what you’re doing, you making it weird by looking at me like that.”
“Like you… like…”
“Like I want more than a tofu dog.” Creme winked as Sugar sputtered.
There was a coughing wheeze behind them, before Tart sneered, “You both are so gross.”
Sugar looked offended. “Me? What the hell did I do?”
“I don’t know, you exist? You’re annoying? Pick one.”
“You..! You are such a-“
The two began to bicker as Spice came up to stand beside Creme. She looked amused by the antics of her boss and her coworker.
She giggled softly, “I’m just going to scoot in and grab some food if you don’t mind, Creme.”
He smiled, “Be my guest, Sugar isn’t looking and I’m not telling.” Creme even helped Spice get some food on her plate.
The pair of them began to eat as they watched the arguing devolve into Sugar chasing Tart around with his spatula. For a day off, this wasn’t half bad: they got entertainment and they got a free show. It was the perfect way to send off summer as they turned to the fall months.
