Normal is not religious. There was a give and take to the world that did not involve such silly things as gods and fate.
Those who knew of Normal and his routines might find this strange to learn. Devout is what they might call him. Every Monday without fail he would visit the Church and donate a few of his hard earned Carats. While it irked his inner Greedy instincts to part with even the paltry sum, the reward for it was worth it in his eyes. A higher standing in the Church meant he could leverage for a little extra leeway in the future. Haul his foot a little higher in the world through sheer force of will.
Today was a Monday.
Normal flicked his sunglasses up to the top of his head when he entered. He was running late, a 'visit' to a client having taken longer than expected. Fizz had better be glad he was cute.
Mercy was not at the Tithes box in the front as expected. But, that was his own fault and he was sure the other bun had other duties. Her office was down the hall so he would just pop in, donate, and then be on his way. Other clients called.
The plush rug muffled his footsteps as he made his way to her office. The door was cracked; not wanting to walk in on Oleander with his dick out (again), Normal peeked into the crack. What he found was pretty juicy.
"Hand in the cookie jar?"
Spoken aloud as he pushed open the door. Normal stood in the doorway, arms crossed, smirking at Mercy.
The other bun jerked her head to look at him, pretty face marred by a glower. Her dainty hand was in the middle of dropping Carats into her bag. Normal just covered his mouth with his hand, hiding a grin, when she pulled her hand back like it had been burned.
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Mm-hmm."
Closing the door behind him with a click, Normal strode across the room. Mercy rolled her eyes and started to lift her skirts, as if used to this, but Normal just plopped down in the chair across from her desk. Mercy was lovely and under other circumstances he would have jumped at the chance to take a bite of her. Today this could be worked into a different advantage.
"I'm just here to tribute to the Church." A small pouch of Carats was tossed onto the table; they spilled out onto the desk, showing off many more than what was usually needed for the weekly Tithe. Mercy sat back in her chair, smoothing her skirts back down, and laced her fingers together.
"Your donation is much appreciated, Normal." Ah, so she could speak his language. Excellent.
"I am but Murmer's humble follower."
"This is very generous, indeed..."
"An extra portion for the Church is no trouble from one such as myself."
"I see."
Not one, but two blessings boxes were taken from behind her desk. The small coffers twinkled in the light of the room. One was the usually weekly Tithe box, but the other shone with a greater importance. Mercy pushed them both over, which Normal gladly accepted.
"May blessings be upon you, sister."
"And you as well."
When Normal got up, he turned back for only a moment to shoot Mercy a sly look.
Yes, it was always helpful to have an understanding in the Church.
