Surprise Littermate Beach Encounter
It was not often Adelaide got to take a day off entirely from running her Books & Fibre Arts Land as it often took up great amount of her time with organizing classes, checking the inventories and dealing with customers. Not to mention it was open nearly 24/7 as she lived on the property.
However. The weather had been warming up quite considerably and she had wanted to take a day off for a while. So she could get outside, enjoy the lovely weather and maybe swim a little. She had prepared a lovely beach bag in advance, a simple beige straw bag with rainbow tie dye fabric lining inside where she had stored a plain pale blue towel inside among other things.
Such as sunscreen. Not that sun existed in Burrowgatory. But. The crystals lining the ceiling could get harsh, yes? She also packed a oversized straw hat with forest green ribbon bow tied in the back.
Adelaide had carefully selected a one piece swimsuit with cut outs in various places, and it was white with soft colors splattered all over it. Adelaide had crocheted herself a lacy coverup with earth striping yarn. Perfect for an outing to the beach yes?
Pair with good old sandals and she's good to go.
Nothing could happen today to ruin her mood. Right?
Adelaide had just gotten to the beach and laid down her towel before pinning down a large umbrella that she had prepared herself. Then she made herself very comfortable in a lounging position with a wonderful book in hands to spend her time reading. Perfect way to spend the day at Forneus Sea. She had even braided her long hair down instead of keeping up in its signature messy bun on top of her head and left her reading glasses at home.
All was well.
"Oh? If it isn't dear Laide lounging in front of me~" A certain silky voice reached her ears which weren't wrapped in yarn for once and Adelaide barely held back the urge to clench her hands around her book tightly.
Oh demons damn fucking it all to hell. She knew that voice. Had grown up hearing it often after all. The Greed closed her eyes and took a deep breath to regain her composure before slowly cracking then open then tilting her head up and backwards; her brown eyes meeting red and white eyes that belonged to her littermate. Her eyebrows lifted into her bangs as the owner of those eyes moved around to set down towel and umbrella right next to her.
"You so rarely venture outside the headquarters, Zero..." Adelaide sighed softly as Zero smirked down at her before settling down on his towel, his long hair easily cascading over his shoulders. Adelaide took note of how Zero had opted for a plain hematite grey t-shirt and amethyst purple swim trunks.
"There has been lot of talk about the beach and I simply made the decision to take a day off" Zero chuckled as Adelaide narrowed her eyes.
"Was it to stalk me or did you make the decision on your own?"
"Don't be ridiculous, Laide. Your schedule is unpredictable." It wasn't a secret to either of them that the Envy kept tabs on several of his subordinates. That sentence told Adelaide that it had been an impulsive decision on his part.
"Well fine. May as well join me then since you're here and intruding on my day" Adelaide sighed softly but her tone told Zero that she wasn't angry with him. Merely mildly annoyed.
"Too many customers lately?" He pried and she shot him a glare. Well then. He pulled out his own book to read as Adelaide returned to her lounging position with her book.
As annoying as her littermate could be, she did adore him and could tolerate his presence as well as his ways. That and work were ALWAYS off the table for topics to talk about. Adelaide was protective over hers and Zero's work wasn't something that could be easily discussed in public.
"Picked up any new tea blends lately? Or coffee?" His silky voice had her turning her head in his direction where his eyes were firmly in his book. She sighed softly.
"Haven't had time to. Probably will go sometime this week unless you're willing to run this mundane errand for me" Adelaide rolled her eyes upon hearing the soft snort from him. He likely would not but also sometimes he did surprise her.
"Perhaps I will. Perhaps not. We shall see. I did hear rumours of a new tea shop that opened up near one of our favorite restaurants." Zero mused.
"As kind as ever" The Greed's voice dripped with mild sarcasm that had him shaking his head.
"You put up with my taste for alcohol. Only natural that I would put up with your taste for those bland leaf water"
"They are good and you fucking know that, you piece of shit" She hissed lowly causing him to laugh quietly with a clawed hand reaching out to pat at her thigh.
"Apologies apologies, Laide" Zero found entertainment in provoking his littermate into snapping at him especially since she happened to be known for her calm and sweet demeanor.
"I did find a coffee blend that works wonderful with that alcoholic creamer you loves so much. I'll bring it with me when we do schedule our next dinner outing. You still have to find time in that stupidly busy schedule of yours to." Adelaide sighed softly as Zero nodded with a frown. It did frustrate him that he had not been able to find time for his dear littermate due to various situations cropping up requiring his attention. He would delegate those tasks but they required his attention specifically.
He would have to have a discussion with his Watchers soon because he was getting fed up of incompetence in his syndicate. Alas.
"We shall enjoy the beach today. Perhaps grab a lunch together. This will have to do for now" Zero murmured quietly as Adelaide's focus returned to her book.
Sometimes you just had to make do. Even if it's a surprise encounter on the beach.
well then.
