Twins Playing Chess

Today it is raining hard in Burrowgatory. The two buns are staying indoors today. Lei-Lei and Dan-Dan are just sitting on the couch in the living room.

Lei-Lei is sitting upside down and swaying his little feet in the air. He feels very bored and is constantly looking at the window several times to see if the rain has stopped.

Dan-Dan meanwhile is just knitting and doesn't seem to be bothered at all staying indoors.

Lei-Lei then looks at Dan-Dan and lets out a sigh. “I'm bored…”

“I can tell.” Dan-Dan responded as he was still knitting.

Lei-Lei pouts at his answer as he expects him to do something. He sighs again and flips over. “Do you have some board games at least?” He asked as he fidgeted his little feet.

“You can check the closet.” Dan-Dan pointed at the direction where it's located, in their bedroom.

“Ooo, okay~” Lei-Lei got excited hearing this, finally something to entertain him. He quickly goes to check the closet and goes to dig into it, throwing the clothes out of the closet just to find any board games in there. He eventually found it, looked at it and felt disappointed. It’s a wooden chess board. “Aw what.. chess??”

Dan-Dan goes to where Lei-Lei is right now. He noticed the mess he just made, but didn't comment about it. “Have you played chess before?” He asked.

“No.. but.. this looks boring…” Lei-Lei had a disappointed tone on his voice and shook the board game a little in front of Dan-Dan.

“Well.. It's the only board game I have right now. We can at least try to play it together. I'll teach you how to play it.” Dan-Dan said in the same monotonous tone, but he genuinely wants to cheer Lei-Lei up.

“Ugh, fiiine…” Lei-Lei grunted. He looks away a bit from him and hands him the chess board.

Dan-Dan takes it now. “Very well then.” He goes back to the living room to place it there, where they will be playing.

Lei-Lei followed soon after, he didn't bother picking up the clothes that he made a mess of back in the closet.

Dan-Dan opens the board game now and gets out a plastic bag full of chess pieces that are black and white colored. He lays down the board and individually puts the chess pieces in their correct positions.

Lei-Lei just watches him and still doesn't seem to like what's going on right now on the board. He starts to make pouty expressions and scratches his head as he is just watching Dan-Dan. He doesn't understand how this game works and feels overwhelmed seeing all the pieces getting placed.

After a few moments, Dan-Dan is done placing the chess pieces now. “So this is how you play the game. First—” He starts to explain how the game works and each of the pieces' movements.

Lei-Lei tries to listen to him, but his mind starts to think of something else and is not listening to what Dan-Dan is saying. He starts staring at the walls and imagines something else fun in his head.

“Did you get that?” Looks like Dan-Dan had finished his explanation of the game.

Lei-Lei snaps out from his daze. “H-Huh what? Wait, you're done??” Him looked surprised saying this.

“...” Dan-Dan kept a neutral expression. “Well we should start then. I'll pick this side.” He picks the white side.

“W-Wait wait-! I still don't know how to play this game!” Lei-Lei pouted.

“I will guide you as we play.” Dan-Dan calmly responded. He knows how Lei-Lei works and tries to teach him in another way.

Lei-Lei sighs and tilts his head a bit. “Okay...”

The two buns start playing now.

“Pick whatever piece that is in front of your side, and move either one or two squares forward.” Dan-Dan is just guiding Lei-Lei as they play.

“Uh.. okay” Lei-Lei followed his instructions and chose to move one square forward from one of the pawns.

“Okay, now is my turn” Dan-Dan also made a move with one of his pawns to one square.

As time went by, Dan-Dan is teaching Lei-Lei in playing the game while also going easy on him as he’s going to let him win. Both of them managed to take each other's chess pieces from the board.

Lei-Lei seems to know how to play now and is winning as it can be seen that he has more chess pieces than Dan-Dan.

“Waah, this is getting a little intense.” Lei-Lei nervously chuckled and fidgeted with his little hands. He seems to enjoy the game now even though most of the time Dan-Dan has been helping him in winning. He then makes a move now and takes one piece from Dan-Dan.

Dan-Dan has kept a calm neutral look on his face while playing with Lei-Lei. “You're doing good.” He seems happy seeing Lei-Lei enjoying the game now despite not showing it. He makes one more move now, which causes him to finally lose.

Lei-Lei took notice of his move. He immediately makes a move. “Ahah! Checkmate~” He took his piece now and won the game. “Yay I win!”

“Congrats.” Dan-Dan saying this in a monotonous tone and just clapping for him.

“Woo hoo!” Lei-Lei jumped for a moment in joy, but suddenly realized something. “Hmm.. you sure you didn't go easy on me?” He squinted at Dan-Dan.

“I was.” Dan-Dan answered it honestly.

“Awww come on!” Lei-Lei stomped his foot there. “Let's play again! This time don't go easy on me~” He confidently smiled at Dan-Dan, he really wanted a challenge now.

“Very well then.” Dan-Dan accepted it and the two once again played another round, just enjoying playing with each other as the rain still kept on going outside.
