Taking Shelter at Church
"Shit!" She didn't normally curse but the weather forecast had NOT predicted rain, nor this level of rain that was steadily growing heavy as she threw her drawstring bag over one shoulder and began to hurry down the street, her flats quickly getting soaked with the growing puddles that her feet keep going through. She cursed once again as she realized her apartment is too far for her to reach safely since she could already feel the anti-slip grips starting to fail in her glassy soles. Her flats were already starting to threaten to slip off of her feet so she made a sharp turn at a fork in the road and continued down the familiar street toward a place she had occasionally stopped by for some research in the past.
The Church of Sulfur. Ballini could only hope she didn't run into Oleander or Mercy. He was too sleazy for her liking and Mercy occasionally made her feel uncomfortable. The soft pittering from rain hitting the ground had turned into hard thunking as the rain went from a light shower to downright pouring so the ballet dancer was thoroughly soaked much to her great displeasure.
She hurries up stairs and through the double large doors before moving to lean against the wall next to the doors with soft sigh as she looks down at her soaked clothes and shoes; her high ponytail was sticking uncomfortably to her neck and she knew she needed to get into dry and warm clothing otherwise she'd catch a cold but the only clothes in her bag was her dancing attire and it wasn't appropriate. Ballini groaned as she lifted a leg to check the state of her flats only for her other foot to slip and she stumbled while trying to catch her balance again.
Then strong arms steadied her forearms and Ballini breathed out a soft "Thank you" as she looked up into the serene face of what looks to be a priest. No. That is a priest keeping her steady.
"Are you all right, my child?" His kind voice reached her ears and Ballini blinked before nodding
"Yes, thank you Father....? It suddenly began to rain so hard outside and I am quite soaked not to mention my glassy legs..." she glanced down "My anti-slip grips were ruined. Could I stay here and wait out the storm?"
"Haruspex. Certainly, child. I can offer a spare habit for you to wear while your clothes get washed and dried? You may rest in my office" Father Haruspex offered kindly.
"I would like that very much, thank you" Ballini sounded grateful as she followed him to the room where she can step out of her clothes, towel her body dry and step into spare habit with the towel around her damp hair now. She followed him as he got her clothes sorted out to be sent through the laundry then led her to his office.
"May I make you some tea to warm up with, child?" He offered and Ballini nodded "Yes please. Also please call me Ballini" she requested and he nodded as Haruspex stepped away to prepare her some tea while she got settled on the sofa in his office.
Sighing softly, the dancer pulled out her phone from her bag and fired off a text to her littermate that she's taking refuge in the church to wait out the rainstorm; and that she's fine. Ballini leaned back on the sofa and reached up to ruffle her hair dry with the towel before pulling it off, her pink hair falling down around her shoulders, damp and no longer dripping with water. She groaned softly "I just washed my hair this morning....Fine...." Her phone rang and she checked only to roll her eyes at her littermate's fortune of avoiding the rain. Lucky.
Ballini leaned down to check her flats and feet; groaning when she saw her shoes were soaked and setting them aside by the heater to dry, using a towel to get out as much water as possible before setting them on the sofa so her feet could drape over them.
"Sometimes I hate having glassy limbs...." she grumbled as she poked around in her bag looking for her backup anti slip grips. When she noticed that she was out of them, she swore under her breath.
"Damn glassy limbs and causing me trouble in wet conditions..."
"Ah yes I can see how that would make things difficult...Here is your tea"
Ballini glanced up at the Pride Priest's kind voice and offered a small smile as she reached for the teacup on top of the saucer.
"Thank you very much!" She sipped the tea as Haruspex moved to his desk to do some work.
The pair would spend several hours in comfortable silence as they waited out the rainstorm. By time it had cleared up, her clothes had been washed and ready for her; and her flats were dry enough for her to wear them again. Through, Ballini did end up putting them into her drawstring bag so she could slip into her hooves form as they were less likely to slip around.
"Thank you so much for your kindness and shelter!" Ballini offered a grateful smile.
"You are welcome. Do you happen to live nearby? I could escort you home to ensure your safety?" Haruspex offered and she shook her head
"Unfortunately I live too far but thank you for offering." With that, she departed for home.
Ballini gets rained on and takes shelter where a priest offers kindness
