Rainy Beach
Some time ago two succubun doe sat under a beach umbrella for shelter on the beach on what should’ve been a perfectly sunny day…
The harmonic, droning dribble of rainwater beat down on the colorful plastic blues and pinks, ocean waves beating on wet sand and seashells. Displeased succubuns sigh and pack their things, trickling out from the beach and into shelter as they fight the wind.
“I fucking hate meteorologists! All they do is lie, lie, and lie,” Brooke groaned and flipped off the gray, moody sky, “Go tell your conspirator newsman to eat a family-sized bag of dicks!”
Sapphire sighs as she pulls her legs away from the edge of the umbrella, getting comfortable on the dry towel under her, “Are you yelling at the clouds, Capri?”
“Yes. I am. My day is ruined because of themmmmmm…” Brooke groans dramatically, flopping backwards to rest her head in Sapphire’s lap. “I planned an event and everything!“
“Know, I helped–“
“-Yeah, yeah, whatever, but anyways, before you interrupted me, I planned a volleyball event and everything! And it seemed everybody else got the correct news report but me!” Brooke continues to lament. Saph just sighs and rolls her eyes, fondly petting Brooke’s ears.
“You’re being stupid and dramatic,” Sapphire tuts, waggling a finger in Brooke’s face, who scoffs and crosses her arms.
“Dramatic? That’s an adjective I’ll take. But stupid? No, you’re trying to gauge a dramatic reaction out of me so ha ~ You’re not going to get it.”
Sapphire smiles, laughing softly as she looks up from her friend to see the view of the raging ocean. "Ahh, I see, proving that you’re smart and dramatic, then?” She looks back down at Brooke to confirm, raising her brows.
“Exactly, Saphie. You get it,” Brooke pokes Sapphire’s nose. "Thusly, the rain isn’t my fault! It isn’t! The newscaster said it wouldn’t rain, but it did, and now I look like a goddamn fool!“
Sapphire realizes that Brooke will definitely begin one of her insecurity spirals: “Nobody actually thinks you’re stupid because of the weather, love. Relax, please?” She coos, soothing her friend with more head pets. “The rain is nice.”
“You think rain is nice?” Brooke chuffs, her tail flicking in annoyance, though its hard to be upset with pets. Brooke curiously looks up at the pride bun. “Yeah,” Sapphire wistfully looks out towards the horizon, the water droplets falling and dribbling to the sea. Joining each other once again to rain another day.
“We weren’t ever allowed to touch rain with Baroness, don’t you remember? Let alone be three feet of rainwater." The demoness who raised them is mainly a fading memory now. But Sapphire remembers wishing to go outside and play; she remembers being told no. “When the light catches the raindrops, don’t they look like crystals?”
Brooke quietly looks out towards the horizon as well, doing her best to admire the rain.
“Maybe if I was in a better mood, I’d agree.” She huffs, closing her eyes and readjusting her head, “But no.”
“Either way I’m glad I’m here today and not at the club,” Sapphire shrugs, “Today would’ve been a grueling day at work! Weekends always are,” She gestures vaguely with her hands, “I wasn’t particularly looking forward to the event either, admittedly,” Brooke scoffs at her, pretending to be deeply offended.
“I still think that boss of yours is shady as Hell, you need to quit that job,” Brooke says bossily at Sapphire.
“I can’t quit The Siren, Brooke. Why do you always have to bring it up?” Saph barks at her in frustration.
Brooke is left unfazed and unimpressed, “Pushover.” She points out. Sapphire can only fume, “Whatever, let's get out of the rain before it becomes impossible to leave. We can go to that icecream place you like a whole awful lot, I’ll pay.”
“Oooo ~!” Brooke happily sits right up, kicking her feet, “Yes ma’am! Lead the way!”

Now, presently, rain falls and blocks out the twinkling crystals of Burrowgatory’s cavernous cave roof, Sapphire finds herself walking streets she hasn’t visited in some time...
The beach scene isn’t like her, not anymore, not since she took control of her life. Seeing the shops is nostalgic—all the ice cream and pizza (food she doesn’t eat anymore). She’s in this part of town because Momo invited her over to the casino across from this part of town.
But alas, it is raining. And she doesn’t have an umbrella. Sapphire holds a hand out from under the ice cream parlor's sun-umbrella, frowning as the silk fabric of her glove dampens. Not because she's surprised, but because she remembers a part of her life where such things didn’t even bother her. But it… does bother her now if her glove gets slightly wet.
A decade ago, she’d stroll through the rain without much thought, but she has achieved greatness and success. So supposedly water is too lowly for her, even if it comes from the heavens. A part of Sapphire mourns the girl she was, who had to die to become who she is now.
Agreeing to come was a horrible idea, she isn’t even certain why she agreed in the first place. Perhaps this week hasn’t been her best; perhaps she should just go home.
But alas, she can’t. Because it’s fucking raining.
Sapphire tips her head back and groans, running a hand through her hair.
“Well well, look what the backwash brought in, it’s Siren Sapphire ~ ” Brooke’s voice singsongs over the drumming of the downpour, giggling from under her clear umbrella, standing in the rain. Her outfit is a loose summer dress, flowers woven into her teal hair.
Oh how fantastically wonderful. “Piss off, Brooke I’m not in the mood for your nonsense,” Sapphire spat, corner of her lip twitching, but her reaction only eggs Brooke on; like it always has.
“You telling me you've 'outgrown' it? It seems like you’re not in the right place, babe,” Brooke’s tone became a lot less playful, stepping forward to glare at her before a cruel smirk slipped across her lips once again, “Isn’t this part of Burrowgatory outdated for you?”
She doesn’t have time or energy to have a brat-off with Brooke (she does in fact have the time and energy) but does she want to? No, not really. Sapphire is tired, wet, and far too contemplative. It’s a little amusing how quickly Brooke seemed to manifest before her mere seconds after she began to miss her.
“Isn’t your clingy, twinky boyfriend still awaiting his mummy’s arrival back to his penthouse? Surely he’s starved by now because his foodbowl twas left empty...” Saph puts her hands on her hips, tilting her chin up at Brooke.
“You leave my gorgeous, twinky boyfriend out of this, bitch! “ Brooke hmpfs and jabs a finger at her, “Least I get some consistent dick. Enjoy getting soggy, why don’t you,” She flips Sapphire off over her shoulder as she turns to leave, frowning and scowling once her face is out of sight.
Sapphire rubs her face and pulls out her phone to open her contacts, she’ll call Momo and just tell him to get her.
"…"
She raises her head and takes a moment to admire the rain.
Some bits of backstory... Developing missus Brooke :3
