How Charlie Met Benny
Charlie doesn't remember much of his childhood. Everything kind of blurrs together when you are young. However, there is one memory that has stayed with him forever and that is the memory of the day he met his best friend Benny.
As a child, Charlie was very quiet and tended to keep to himself. Most days he would lay on the snow and daydream. This day in particular the snow had calmed down from the night before and the sun was shining bright. Charlie thought to himself, "Definetly should have grabbed sunglasses before going outside". Looking around there wasn't much around except for the snowy mountains, a tree here and there or the lake nearby. Besides that, everything was as white as snow.
With nothing to do, Charlie decided to make snow balls. After a few were made, he decided a snow fort would be a better use of his time. Charlie began to dig little tunnels into the newly made snow until his fort was done. Now to be fair, it was just a plie of snow with holes in it, but to Charlie, it was his base of operations. When the fort was complete he dug a hole in the roof to look out and surveyed the area. The other buns or his "littermates" as Miss Demon called them were finally out and about. He never understood why they slept in all the time when the sun was out. One bun in particular stumbled out of the house. This bun had black and white fur like him, but had weird red metal circles on his eyes. Miss Demon said he needed them to see and called them "glasses". Charlie wondered if they were like the binoculars that he borrowed to see farther or the telescope in the attic that let them see into space, but he wasn't sure.
The kid walked closer and closer to his fort. He assumed it was probably to get away from the other kids. "Glasses Kid" began inspecting Charlie's misshapen snowballs of different sizes and began to laugh. Charlie put his head back into the fort and walked to the "main enterance" where the snowballs were placed.
"Hey kid! What's so funny?". Charlie was confused on why he was laughing.
The bun looked up at him and smiled, "You have all the pieces to make a snow army but you didn't put them together silly". This made Charlie blush.
"Well I had not got to that part yet". Charlie points to the pille of snowballs. "You can help me make them if you want to". The bun's eyes began to sparkle.
"Really?!?! Can we make snow imps too?!?!". The bun began to hop up and down with excitement.
Charlie begans to grin and points at his chest. "I happen to be an expert on snow armies and pups". He shakes the buns hand, "Welcome to the team kid. What's your name?".
The bun shakes Charlie's hand, "The name's Benny, Sir!!!".
Charlie chuckles, "Sir seems too formal friend. Call me Charlie".
So Charlie and Benny began to create the best defense system on this side of the snow hill. Charlie made weird snowmen and Benny made cute snow imps. Benny left the imp pups to Charlie since they seemed to be his favorite. After they were all done, Miss Demon called them in for lunchtime. Charlie and Benny sighed because they had to put their playtime on pause. Charlie wasn't too worried about it though. Seems like Benny was a good kid. Good enough to share Miss Demon's carrot cupcakes with.
Walking into the house, Charlie and Benny took their time asking questions about each other. "So Charlie, do you really like dog imps?", asked Benny.
"Of course I do", said Charlie. "Dogs are the best guard animals. They protect you from danger and they are a best friend for life".
Benny blushed and looked at Charlie. "Do you think we could become best friends for life?".
Charlie hugged Benny. "We already are ya Silly Goose. You never make snow forts with your enemies. Plus we both like wearing scarves!!!".
This made benny laugh. "I am not sure what scarves have to do with anything, but glad to be a part of the team Sir!!!"
Charlie looked at Benny with a brow raised. "Now Benny, best friends don't call each other Sir. Call me Charlie. Only those lower ranked than me call me Sir".
" Can do Charlie, but I must ask. Who is lower ranked than you?"
Charlie put on a serious face. "Those who bully the weak and actually like broccoli. Those monsters will pay for their deeds!!!". Charlie raised a fist in the air.
Benny began to roll on the floor laughing. I guess Charlie had a few things to learn about other buns, but at least he knew how to treat his friends. As soon as they were done with lunch, Charlie gave half of his cupcake to Benny as a toast to their new friendship. Charlie began to ask a lot of weird questions like, "Does Benny have x-ray vision?" and "Can glasses help you see into space?". Benny began to explain how glasses worked. After, he told Charlie about his love for imps and nature. Benny even showed Charlie his favorite book about plants that grew in warmer climates. Together they laughed and enjoyed each other's company. Charlie even chose the bed next to Benny's in the attic. They talked all night until they both fell asleep.
A fond story that Charlie looks back on when he thinks about how he met his littermate Benny. They had been best friends forever and this is the moment that started it all.
